WASHINGTON (AP) — Colin Moran has less than a full season's worth of at-bats in the majors, and just maybe the 26-year-old is becoming one of the game's better pinch hitters.

Allen makes 2 superb catches, Indians beat Red Sox 6-3
BOSTON (AP) — Center fielder Greg Allen made two superb catches to help fellow rookie Shane Bieber hold down Boston, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Red Sox 6-3 Tuesday night in a matchup of AL division leaders.
Melky Cabrera homered for the second straight game and Yan Gomes also connected for Cleveland. The Indians have won nine of 10, including the first two of the four-game series at Fenway Park.
Cabrera hits grand slam as Indians beat Orioles 8-0
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians showed off their power and pitching Sunday.
Melky Cabrera hit a grand slam to cap a six-run fourth inning, four pitchers combined on the team's AL-leading 13th shutout and the Indians continued to roll through August with an 8-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Cabrera homers, Indians’ bullpen shuts down Reds in 4-3 win
CINCINNATI (AP) — The sight of Cincinnati's Billy Hamilton speeding home with the potential tying run didn't shake up Yonder Alonso.
Cleveland's first baseman calmly fielded Joey Votto's bouncer and made a strong throw to catcher Roberto Perez, cutting down Hamilton for the first out of the ninth inning. Just like that, the Reds went from second and third with nobody out to first and second with one out, and Cleveland held on for a 4-3 win on Wednesday night.
Indians pull away from Reds for 10-3 win
CINCINNATI (AP) — Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona turned to Yandy Diaz in a big spot, and he delivered.
Diaz hit a tiebreaking RBI double in Cleveland's seven-run sixth inning, helping the Indians pull away from the Cincinnati Reds for a 10-3 victory on Monday night.
Jose Ramirez hit his 35th homer in Cleveland's fifth win in six games. Ramirez, Michael Brantley and Yan Gomes had three hits apiece, and Melky Cabrera and Jason Kipnis each drove in two runs.
Indians rout Tigers 8-1, lead AL Central by 9
DETROIT (AP) — Terry Francona sounds confident that Corey Kluber will have another big second half for the Cleveland Indians.
Yonder Alonso, Melky Cabrera and Edwin Encarnacion all homered for Cleveland, and Kluber pitched into the eighth inning in an 8-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. It was a positive step for the star right-hander, who was coming off a couple unimpressive starts.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Melky Cabrera has re-signed with the Cleveland Indians, who need outfield depth and protection while Lonnie Chisenhall and Bradley Zimmer are injured.
Cabrera signed a minor league deal Thursday and was assigned to Triple-A Columbus. He was with the club earlier this season before being designated for assignment last month.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians have activated starting first baseman Yonder Alonso from the family medical emergency list.
Alonso returned Monday after missing a weekend series against Minnesota. Alonso is batting .248 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs in 65 games for Cleveland, which signed him as a free agent in December.
To make room for Alonso, the team optioned outfielder Greg Allen to Triple-A Columbus.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have activated outfielder Brandon Guyer from the 10-day disabled list and designated Melky Cabrera for assignment.
The Indians announced the moves prior to Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Guyer — hitting .150 — was batting fifth and playing right field in his first appearance since he strained his neck on May 19. He was hurt in a collision with a fan while chasing a foul ball at Houston.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins were surging into the eighth inning after erasing Cleveland's eight-run lead, chasing what would have been a club-record comeback.
Ah, but Francisco Lindor still had another at-bat, and that's all the Indians needed to regain control.
Indians call up veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera
HOUSTON (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have called up veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera from Triple-A Columbus.
Cabrera was in the lineup for Sunday night's game against the Houston Astros, playing right field and batting sixth.
The 33-year-old Cabrera agreed to a minor league contract with Cleveland in April. Cabrera, a 2012 All-Star, played 156 combined games last season for the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals, batting .285 with 17 homers and 85 RBIs.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera will report to extended spring training after signing a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians.
Indians manager Terry Francona said Wednesday the 33-year-old Cabrera will spend approximately 7-to-10 days at the team's complex in Goodyear, Arizona, before joining a minor league team.
Indians agree to minor league deal with OF Melky Cabrera
CLEVELAND (AP) — Free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera has agreed to a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians.
The deal is contingent on the 33-year-old passing a physical. Cabrera spent last season with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals, batting .285 with 17 homers and 85 RBIs in 156 games.
Cabrera's agreement was first reported by MLB Network.
Vargas and 4 relievers toss 2-hitter, Royals beat Jays 1-0
TORONTO (AP) — Jason Vargas turned in his best performance in months to pick up his third win in three starts.
Vargas and four relievers combined on a two-hitter, Melky Cabrera had three hits and the game's only RBI, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 1-0 on Thursday night.
Vargas (17-10) struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings to win his third straight start. None of the three batters he walked advanced beyond first base.
Alexander gets unlikely save; Royals hold off Twins 7-6
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — With Kansas City's closer on the mound and a three-run lead, odds were pretty good that Scott Alexander could watch the final inning from the bullpen.
Instead, he got his second save of the year.
Alexander replaced an injured Kelvin Herrera and struck out Eddie Rosario with the bases loaded in the ninth inning as the Royals held off the Minnesota Twins 7-6 Friday night.
Cabrera’s 2-run homer lifts Royals over White Sox 5-4
CHICAGO (AP) — Melky Cabrera showed the Chicago White Sox what they are missing.
Cabrera hit a go-ahead, two-run homer against his former team in the eighth inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the White Sox 5-4 Saturday night to stop a five-game losing streak.
Cabrera, acquired from the White Sox on July 30, homered with one out off Aaron Bummer (1-3) and drove in Lorenzo Cain, who led off the inning with a walk against Chris Beck. Cabrera has an eight-game hitting streak.
CHICAGO (AP) — After the Chicago White Sox continued their tear-down on Sunday, two players they hope will be part of the eventual rebuild led them to a much-needed win.
Matt Davidson hit his first career walk-off home run, Carlos Rodon had his longest start of the season and the White Sox beat Cleveland 3-1 to end the Indians' nine-game winning streak.
BOSTON (AP) — Trying to bolster their lineup for a playoff run and beating the trade deadline, the Kansas City Royals got outfielder Melky Cabrera from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
The White Sox sent Cabrera and cash to Kansas City for a pair of Single-A pitchers, 22-year-old right-hander A.J. Puckett and 23-year-old lefty Andre Davis. The swap came before Monday afternoon's deadline for making deals without waivers.
DENVER (AP) — Kyle Freeland just absorbed the thundering cheers as he tipped his cap and headed off the mound.
"A ton of fun," he said.
Easy to see why: The hometown kid turned in one of the best pitching performances ever at Coors Field.
