NEW YORK (AP) — A St. John's University men's lacrosse captain has been arrested and removed from the team after police say he stabbed and nearly disemboweled his roommate.
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — Administrators at the University of Providence say several academic and athletic programs soon will be gone.
The Great Falls Tribune reports the university announced Wednesday that 19 programs (12 majors, six minors, and one graduate program) could be cut.
HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — Quinnipaic has extended the suspension of its men's lacrosse team through the end of the year and says its coach is "no longer with the university."
The team was suspended last month amid allegations of hazing and alcohol use.
The school said in a statement Saturday the suspension was extended through Dec. 31. Spokeswoman Lynn Bushnell adds that individual players have been disciplined. She did not identify the players or specify the punishment.
NEW YORK (AP) — Long Island University will unify its Brooklyn and Post campuses into one Division I sports program beginning next year.
Effective in the fall of 2019, the university will elevate seven current Post programs to Division I, including expanding its membership in the Northeast Conference with men's cross country, men's lacrosse and football, which will make the transition to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is mourning the weekend death of a senior student-athlete.
The university said Sean Peters, a crime and justice major and a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team, died Saturday of complications related to Type 1 diabetes. He was 22.
Coach Terry Corcoran said Peters "was an outstanding young man with great integrity and character" who "represented everything that was good about college athletics."
