Mathieu Faivre, French skier, sent home from Olympics after interview
The French men's skiing program sent home Mathieu Faivre from the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang for remarks he made about his team in a post-race interview.
Faivre finished seventh in the men's giant slalom skiing event and said he was "disgusted by the result." But he doubled down when asked about his French teammates, one of whom won a medal and three of whom placed ahead of Faivre.
Alaska university officials propose sports team cuts
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — University of Alaska officials are seeking permission from the NCAA to reduce the number of sports programs at two campuses while maintaining status as Division II institutions.
Officials have proposed cutting men's and women's skiing at both the University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Alaska Fairbanks. Officials also have proposed cutting men's and women's indoor track at the Anchorage campus.
