Andretti Autosport and McLaren Formula One chief Zak Brown's United Autosports announced late Thursday that they would buy into the Walkinshaw Racing on the Australian touring car circuit.
From Jan. 1, they said the team will be known as Walkinshaw Andretti Autosport, pending Supercars approval.

The payoff came a few hours later when Dixon held off Josef Newgarden after a restart with eight laps to go to win the IndyCar race at the rural Wisconsin road course.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The motorsports critics kept saying Andretti Autosport was stretching itself too thin by fielding an audacious six entries for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500.

IndyCar signs extensions with its 4 major partners
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — IndyCar has signed multi-year extensions with all four of its major partners, including engine makers Chevrolet and Honda.
Also extended were tire supplier Firestone and chassis maker Dallara, which said in January it would stay in IndyCar through 2020. Firestone, Chevrolet and Honda would not discuss the length of their extensions.
IndyCar president of competition and operations Jay Frye said signing all four partners was part of the series' "five-year plan."

Takuma Sato joins Andretti for 2017 IndyCar season
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Japanese veteran Takuma Sato will drive the No. 26 Honda for Andretti Autosport during the 2017 IndyCar season.
The move was announced Friday by CEO Michael Andretti, who said being part of a four-driver team will benefit Sato through collaboration and support. The other drivers are Ryan Hunter-Reay, Alexander Rossi and Marco Andretti.
Andretti, Herta teaming up again for 2017 season
The Indycar ownership tandem of Michael Andretti and Bryan Herta has decided to stay together after a Herta-guided entry with rookie driver Alexander Rossi at the wheel won the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Haas, co-founder of Newman-Haas Racing with late actor Paul Newman, has died. He was 86.
His company, Carl Haas Automobile Imports Inc., posted a statement on its website Thursday saying Haas died on June 29 at his home surrounded by family.
