WASHINGTON (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers tied an NHL record with Mike McKenna becoming their seventh goaltender to play this season.
McKenna started against the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals on Tuesday night and allowed four goals on 25 shots in a 5-3 loss . He got the nod because interim coach Scott Gordon wanted to give top goaltending prospect Carter Hart a break after playing twice in three days.

NEW YORK (AP) — After firing their general manager and coach in recent weeks, the Philadelphia Flyers have responded to a midseason shake-up.
Nolan Patrick scored the lone goal against Henrik Lundqvist in a shootout that lasted four rounds and Philadelphia beat the scuffling New York Rangers 3-2 on Sunday night.

Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock was very much the diplomat after goalies Curtis McElhinney and Calvin Pickard were claimed off waivers Tuesday.

McElhinney was claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes, whose projected starter Scott Darling is injured and set to miss a few weeks. McElhinney has a 62-71-13 record in 10 seasons among six teams.

PHILADELPHIA – Sidney Crosby broke Mario Lemieux's franchise record for most playoff points in a career.
Crosby's second-period goal gave the Penguins a 4-0 lead in the second period of Game 4 of a first-round series against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night and gave him a total of 173 career playoff points — 62 goals and 111 assists in 152 games.
Lemieux had 76 goals and 96 assists for 172 points in 107 playoff games.

Flyers’ Simmonds out 2-to-3 weeks with upper body injury
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds will be out for 2-to-3 weeks after suffering an upper-body injury in Sunday's win over the New York Rangers.
Simmonds has 20 goals and 37 points in 59 games this season for Philadelphia, which hosted Montreal on Tuesday night. He was involved in a first-period tussle in Sunday's game and landed a fight-ending left hand to the side of Tony DeAngelo's helmet.
Flyers get goaltender Petr Mrazek from Red Wings
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Petr Mrazek is going from being a backup goaltender on a losing team to a starting job for a playoff contender.
The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Mrazek from the Detroit Red Wings for two conditional draft picks on Monday night, a day after losing their second goalie to injury in less than 10 days.
Detroit — The trade deadline got started a little early for the Red Wings.
Late Monday night, Detroit traded goalie Petr Mrazek to the Philadelphia Flyers for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional third-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
The Red Wings will retain half of Mrazek's salary for this season.
Flyers surge past Rangers 7-4
NEW YORK (AP) — Pressed into action after Flyers starter Michal Neuvirth left with a lower-body injury, rookie goaltender Alex Lyon was confident at Madison Square Garden having played there before for Yale.
In his fourth NHL game, Lyon calmly went out over the next 40 minutes and made 25 saves for his first NHL win as the surging Flyers rolled past the slumping Rangers 7-4 on Sunday for their sixth win in seven games.
Flyers goalie Elliott out 5-6 weeks after abdominal surgery
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Flyers goalie Brian Elliott had abdominal surgery on Tuesday and will be out 5 to 6 weeks, general manager Ron Hextall said.
Elliott re-aggravated an abdominal injury that cost him four games earlier this month in Saturday's 4-3 shootout victory over Arizona.
In 41 games this season, Elliott has posted a 21-11-7 mark with a 2.72 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.

Capitals rally past Flyers 5-3
WASHINGTON (AP) — Chandler Stephenson, Andre Burakovsky and T.J. Oshie ended lengthy goal droughts to help the Washington Capitals rally past the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 on Wednesday night.
Stephenson scored twice after going without a goal for 28 games. Burakovsky scored on the power play after coming up empty for 10 games, and Oshie lifted his arms and looked to the sky when he scored on the power play to end his 13-game dry spell.

Philadelphia general manager Ron Hextall said Sunday that tests on Neuvirth came back "normal." The 29-year-old Neuvirth has been dealing with an upper respiratory infection for more than a week.

Carter Hutton led the way.
Hutton had 26 saves, Kenny Agostino scored his first goal in almost three years and the Blues beat the Flyers 2-0 on Monday night.

Budaj, Carter lead Kings over Flyers in OT, 5th win in row
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jeff Carter doesn't know where the Los Angeles Kings would be without goalie Peter Budaj. They probably could say the same about Carter.
Budaj posted his NHL-leading seventh shutout, Carter scored midway through overtime and the Kings won their fifth in a row, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 on Saturday.
Budaj, who wasn't even on the Kings' roster on opening night, extended his shutout streak to 144 minutes, 5 seconds. He made 17 saves.

Manning scored on a short-handed chance at the 8:00 mark of the third period, lifting the Flyers to a 4-3 victory over Carolina on Sunday, snapping a two-game losing streak.
