RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The hottest team in the NHL is now in playoff position.
Petr Mrazek stopped 33 shots in his third shutout of the season and the Carolina Hurricanes moved into a wild-card playoff spot with a 3-0 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.
Justin Williams and Brock McGinn scored less than four minutes apart in the first period and Mrazek did the rest, turning aside shot after shot. Micheal Ferland added a power-play goal in the third period.
Aho leads Hurricanes past Predators 6-3
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Sebastian Aho and the Carolina Hurricanes got into a groove after Micheal Ferland tangled with Austin Watson.
Aho had three goals and an assist to help Carolina beat the Nashville Predators 6-3 on Sunday.
The Hurricanes won for the seventh time in eight games. There was no score when Ferland fought Watson 8:19 into the first period.
"That set the tone," Aho said. "We were all fired up after that."

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres kept shooting pucks off each other's players — and they kept going in the net.
Sebastian Aho and the Hurricanes simply did it more often.
Aho scored two goals off the skates of Buffalo defensemen, and the Hurricanes held on to beat the Sabres 4-3 on Friday night, spoiling Jeff Skinner's return to Raleigh.
"Sometimes you don't get those bounces, and today, both of my goals were lucky," Aho said. "So that's how it goes, but a good win."
Hurricanes beat Maple Leafs 5-2 to halt Toronto streak at 4
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Coming into the night, the Toronto Maple Leafs were tied for the NHL lead in scoring and ranked second in goal differential on the strength of a top-notch power play.
Still, the Carolina Hurricanes found a way to neutralize the Leafs behind a former Toronto goaltender and solid special-teams play.

Flames sign defenseman Noah Hanifin to 6-year deal
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Noah Hanifin to a six-year, $29.7 million contract Thursday.
The 21-year-old Hanifin had 10 goals and 22 assists in 79 games for the Carolina Hurricanes last season. He joined the Flames along with forward Elias Lindholm in a June 23 deal that sent defensemen Dougie Hamilton and Adam Fox and forward Micheal Ferland to Carolina.

Johnny Gaudreau had a goal and an assist, Mike Smith made 33 saves, and the Flames beat the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 on Thursday night for their fifth straight victory.
