Steve McQueen’s thriller ‘Widows’ opens London Film Festival
LONDON (AP) — The London Film Festival kicked off Wednesday with the European premiere of British director Steve McQueen's whip-smart heist thriller "Widows."

Steelers inside linebacker Ryan Shazier, who remains at a UPMC facility with a spinal injury, had a spinal stabilization surgery Wednesday night, the team announced Thursday.
Surgery was performed by UPMC neurosurgeons Dr. David Okonkwo and Dr. Joseph Maroon.
The team provided no further update on Shazier's condition.
Shazier was injured early in the first quarter Sunday night in the Steelers' game at Cincinnati when he tackled Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone.
'Fast and Furious 9' has been delayed by a year.
The next movie in the popular franchise was initially due to be released in April 2019 but now, executives at Universal have announced it will instead hit screens on April 10, 2020.
The ninth instalment has yet to find itself a director although it is thought most of the main cast members including Vin Diesel will return. The tenth instalment was slated for release on April 2, 2021 but it is not known if this has been pushed back now too.
Michelle Rodriguez has "always appreciated" Vin Diesel.
The 'Furious 7' actress has praised her co-star for being the "biggest supporter of strong women" after she called for their to be more "love to the women of the franchise".
In the clip posted on Vin's Instagram, she said: "Vin, for many years, you've been the biggest supporter of strong women. I've always appreciated that about you throughout the years and just know that if I ever post anything, that it's not you I'm talking to."
Michelle Rodriguez is threatening to leave "The Fast and the Furious" franchise unless its female characters are treated differently.
Rodriguez wrote on Instagram on Tuesday that she hopes filmmakers decide "to show some love to the women of the franchise" in its next installment. If not, she says, she "just might have to say goodbye."
MOUNT CARMEL — After seven successful years in Mount Carmel, a local business is opening a second location in Princeton, Indiana.
Michelle Rodriguez announced the expansion of her business at the Wabash County Retail Merchants Committee meeting Tuesday.
Michelle, who co-owns Schoogies along with her parents Rod and Debbie Rodriguez, shared the store had a humorous beginning.
"My dad went behind my mom's back and bought a building," Michelle laughed.
Liam Neeson is set to star in 'Widows'.
The 64-year-old actor has reportedly been cast in the upcoming thriller, which will be directed by director Steve McQueen, and is rumoured to play the role of Viola Davis' on-screen husband in the production, according to Empire Online.
The Northern Ireland-born star will appear in the movie alongside Michelle Rodriguez, 38, Andre Holland, 37, Daniel Kaluuya, 27, and Elizabeth Debicki, 26.
