Real Sociedad signs Mexico defender Moreno
MADRID (AP) — Real Sociedad signed veteran Mexico defender Hector Moreno on Wednesday as the transfer window closed in Spain without any high-profile transfers involving the top clubs.
While Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid did not add any major players to their squads, Sociedad signed the 30-year-old Moreno from Roma in a deal reportedly worth 6 million euros ($7.4 million). He is joining the Basque Country club until 2021.
Athletic acts quickly, signs Martinez to replace Laporte
MADRID (AP) — Athletic Bilbao didn't take long to replace young French defender Aymeric Laporte after his move to Manchester City.
The Spanish club said Tuesday it had signed central defender Inigo Martinez from Basque Country rival Real Sociedad, spending 32 million euros ($39 million) on the player's buyout clause.
Laporte left to play for Manchester City after his clause of 65 million euros ($80 million) was paid on Monday.
Porto beats Brugge 2-1 with injury-time penalty
BRUGES, Belgium (AP) — FC Porto came from behind to beat Club Brugge 2-1 Tuesday with an injury-time penalty to become a challenger in Champions League Group G.
Brugge, hit with a slew of injuries, got its first goal in the group in the 12th minute when forward Jelle Vossen latched on to a rebound, kept a cool head in a goalmouth scramble and sent it home with a curling shot.
