MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Forrest Goodman, a longtime member of the Memphis football and men's basketball broadcast team, has died. He was 48.
Memphis extends Mike Norvell’s contract through 2023 season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis coach Mike Norvell has received a one-year extension on a contract that will now run through the 2023 season.
Athletic director Tom Bowen said Tuesday in a statement announcing the extension that "we wanted to show Coach Norvell that we appreciate the work he has put into elevating our football program."
Memphis’ Norvell hires Adam Fuller as defensive coordinator
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis has hired Adam Fuller as its defensive coordinator after he spent this season in the same position at Marshall.
Fuller replaces Chris Ball, who left to become the head coach at Football Championship Subdivision program Northern Arizona.
Memphis coach Mike Norvell called Fuller "one of the top defensive minds in college football" in announcing the hire on Saturday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis will be playing the Birmingham Bowl without All-America running back Darrell Henderson.
Henderson tweeted Wednesday that he's bypassing his senior season to enter the NFL draft, but his post didn't indicate whether he'd play in the Dec. 22 bowl game against Wake Forest (6-6). Memphis coach Mike Norvell has since clarified that the Tigers (8-5) won't have Henderson for the bowl game.
Northern Arizona hires Chris Ball as next football coach
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Northern Arizona has hired Memphis defensive coordinator Chris Ball as its next football coach.
Ball's hiring was announced by the school Monday.
Ball replaces Jerome Souers, who stepped down after 21 years to take another position within the athletic department.
Littrell to remain North Texas coach amid K-State interest
DENTON, Texas (AP) — Seth Littrell has decided to remain at North Texas after Kansas State had expressed interest in one of the nation's up-and-coming coaches to replace Hall of Famer Bill Snyder.
Littrell told the Mean Green in a meeting Friday that he would not be leaving for the Wildcats. It ended a courtship in which Littrell met with Kansas State officials several times this week. North Texas will face Utah State in the New Mexico Bowl next week.
High-powered No. 10 UCF, Memphis set for AAC showdown
MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) — The Memphis Tigers finally get the UCF Knights on their own field with a chance at a bit of payback for the double-overtime classic that cost them the American Athletic Conference title last season.
The Knights pulled out a 62-55 win that preserved their undefeated season.
White wins Memphis’ QB competition; Moore leaves team
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis' Brady White will be the starting quarterback for the Tigers' Sept. 1 season opener with Mercer.
White had been competing with sophomore David Moore. Memphis coach Mike Norvell announced Tuesday that Moore has left the program and plans to transfer.
White is a graduate transfer from Arizona State with two years of eligibility remaining. He played three games in 2016 before a foot injury sidelined him for the remainder of that year and all of 2017.

AUBURN — Days after saying he had somebody in mind for the NCAA-approved 10th assistant coaching spot, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn turned to his friend’s staff at Memphis.
Malzahn announced Wednesday evening that Marcus Woodson, who has been on Mike Norvell’s staff at Memphis for the last two seasons, has been hired.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis has added Keith Patterson and TJ Rushing to its football staff and will bring Will Hall aboard as well when a new NCAA rule allowing a 10th assistant coach takes effect next week.
The Tigers also announced they have promoted quarterbacks/tight ends coach Kenny Dillingham to offensive coordinator. Dillingham replaces Darrell Dickey, who left to become Texas A&M's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He remains the youngest head coach in FBS by nearly two years. The second-oldest head coach is Memphis’ Mike Norvell, who turns 36 next month. He is 694 days older than Riley.
Riley’s 29th birthday coincided with his first game as East Carolina’s offensive coordinator in 2010 against Tulsa. Ironically, Norvell was also at that game. He was on TU’s staff as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

The Tigers made their case by posting a third straight winning season last year despite dealing with a coaching change and replacing a quarterback drafted in the first round. Memphis had gone a combined 12-48 in the six seasons before this three-year run.

Norvell announced the moves Sunday.

2 Memphis players suspended over alleged fight, shooting
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The University of Memphis has suspended two football players who were involved in an alleged fight and one of the players later had his car hit by bullets.
Wide receiver Jae'Lon Oglesby and cornerback Kam Prewitt were indefinitely suspended on Wednesday. The Commercial Appeal reports (http://memne.ws/2ecnfTp ) the alleged fight happened on Tuesday, and several shots were fired at Oglesby's car later that night.

Running back Jamarius Henderson leaving Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Running back Jamarius Henderson is leaving Memphis' football program.
Coach Mike Norvell announced Monday in a news release that "due to a family situation, (Henderson) will be granted a release in order to be closer to his son." Norvell added that "we wish him all the best in his future."
