F-35 program expected to bring 400 new jobs to Ohio air base
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Congress members representing southwestern Ohio say Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton will get at least 400 new jobs as it adds a mission related to managing versions of the F-35 strike fighter.
The Pentagon's decision to base the F-35 Hybrid Product Support Integrator Organization at Wright-Patterson was announced this week by Ohio's senators, Republican Rob Portman and Democrat Sherrod Brown, and GOP Rep. Mike Turner.

The first-time candidate faces GOP Rep. Mike Turner, a former Dayton mayor seeking his ninth term in the 10th House District. He got 64 percent of the vote in 2016. She agreed she's a longshot, but added: "My mom always told me to go big or go home."
Historical society celebrates federal designation for museum
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Dayton History has unveiled the new John W. Berry Sr. Wright Brothers National Museum.
Dayton History President Brady Kress says the museum now has a federal designation. Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Turner and Dayton Foundation President Michael Parks were on hand for the unveiling last week at Carillon Park.
Also in attendance were Wright brothers' great-grandnephew and great-grandniece Stephen Wright and Amanda Wright-Lane.
Pentagon chief Mattis defends his reversal on Space Force
BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Sunday he is satisfied that creating a Space Force as a separate military service is the right way to reorganize the Pentagon's approach to space.
Mattis, who last year opposed moves in Congress to create a separate space service, said his emphasis then was on establishing a consensus about what the Pentagon's space problem is before recommending a way to fix it.
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Republican Mike Turner has defeated two primary challengers as he seeks his ninth term in Ohio's 10th U.S. House District.
The former Dayton mayor has been active on military issues in the district, which includes Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He's on the House Armed Services Committee.
But both his opponents had military ties. John Anderson is a longtime air base employee, and John Mitchel is an Air Force veteran.

Museum official: No plans to sell Wright Brothers artifact
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AP) — The National Aviation Hall of Fame is reassuring a congressman that it has no plans to sell a century-old wooden propeller signed by one of the Wright brothers.
The 8 ½ foot spruce propeller from 1915 is the only known airplane artifact with the signature of one of the aviation pioneer siblings, Orville Wright. It is not on public display but is kept at the hall at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.
US rep investigating National Aviation Hall of Fame finances
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A congressman from southwestern Ohio says he's investigating the finances of the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton after getting complaints alleging mismanagement of its resources.
The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/2jiW1fA ) that U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, a Republican from Dayton, alerted the Hall of Fame's Board of Trustees chairman William Harris Jr. to the investigation in a Jan. 25 letter.
