Have the No. 8 Buckeyes solved their running game problems?
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — After seeing its two star running backs shut down by a series of less talented opponents, No. 8 Ohio State finally managed to break them loose on Saturday. It was a timely development, as the Buckeyes this week prepare to face the top defense in the country against the run.
No. 3 Ohio State holds off persistent Minnesota 30-14
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — All of No. 3 Ohio State's strengths and weaknesses were on full display in a win over persistent Minnesota.
Dwayne Haskins and the passing game continue to be tip-top. Ohio State's receivers get open and vacuum in anything thrown near them. K.J. Hill's grab and run for a touchdown in the first half was the best catch of the season, so far.
Hill caught another TD pass in the fourth quarter to seal the 30-14 win over Minnesota (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) on Saturday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Former defenseman Mike Weber is all too familiar with the Sabres' lean years while spending a majority of his eight NHL seasons in Buffalo.
There were high-priced free agents who failed to pan out and one draft-pick bust after another. Weber made the playoffs just twice, with Buffalo eliminated in the first round both times.
Buckeyes still loaded as most NFL-eligible players stay put
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and his assistants annually brace for announcements about elite and not-so-elite players leaving the program early for the NFL draft.
But Monday's deadline to declare came and went, and the damage wasn't so bad for the Buckeyes.
There were some predictable early departures in cornerback Denzel Ward, linebacker Jerome Baker and defensive end Sam Hubbard. They were obvious NFL prospects.

Still not 100 percent last Thursday, he sat out as Dobbins rambled for 181 yards on 29 carries, showing instincts and judgment beyond his years in a 49-21 win over Indiana.
Freshman RB Dobbins may timeshare for No. 2 Buckeyes
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Urban Meyer kept trying to lower the expectations surrounding freshman running back J.K. Dobbins before No. 2 Ohio State's season opener.

After rushing for 181 yards and breaking Maurice Clarett's 15-year-old school record for a freshman debut, the Buckeyes will try to figure out how best to deploy their newest star and last season's top runner, Mike Weber, together.

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson seems most comfortable this time of year; he can see the finish line, and it’s a point of pride to be at his best with championships up for grabs. Watson’s running ability offers a serious threat Ohio State hasn’t seen. His counterpart, J.T. Barrett, isn’t far behind in the big-game experience department, but he’s nowhere near the thrower.
Ohio State had some surprises in store in 2016
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — When fall camp opened, coach Urban Meyer had a pretty good idea how quarterback J.T. Barrett played would dictate Ohio State's fortunes, that Curtis Samuel would be a top playmaker and Mike Weber had what it took to be the next elite tailback in Columbus.
Those were pretty safe bets.
But some other things happened in 2016 that not even Meyer could have predicted — most of them good.

Mike Weber of Ohio State and Justin Jackson of Northwestern are the only Big Ten rushers among the top 25 nationally, yet five teams are running for more than 200 yards a game.
Freshmen are beginning to make their marks across Big Ten
Ohio State's Mike Weber has established himself as one of the nation's top first-year players and a worthy successor to Ezekiel Elliott. Michigan's Rashan Gary has lived up to his billing as the country's No. 1 overall recruit.
Out of that spotlight, other young players have begun to emerge across the Big Ten. Here's a look at the best true or redshirt freshmen on each of the 14 teams:

Columbus, Ohio — If Jim Harbaugh had his way, Mike Weber would be running around in maize and blue this summer instead of preparing to be the starting tailback for hated rival Ohio State.
