Hala Alyan, Ta-Nehisi Coates win Dayton Literary Peace Prize
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A debut novel about a displaced Palestinian family and a book of essays exploring race and identity during Barack Obama's presidency have been named the winners of the annual Dayton Literary Peace Prize.
Author of bestselling novel ‘ Pachinko’ to speak at Greenwich Library
GREENWICH — Writer Min Jin Lee will speak on her bestselling novel “Pachinko,” about a Korean immigrant family fighting to control their destiny in 20th-century Japan, in Greenwich’s Library’s next author event.
AuthorsLive@GreenwichLibrary will present a conversation with Lee about her novel, which was on the New York Times Ten Best List for 2017 and was a National Book Award finalist, among other honors. She will appear at the library on March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium.
Jesmyn Ward among finalists for National Book Awards
NEW YORK (AP) — Jesmyn Ward, Masha Gessen and Frances Fitzgerald are among this year's finalists for the National Book Awards.
On Wednesday, the National Book Foundation announced short lists of five each in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, young people's literature and poetry. Winners will be announced at a Manhattan dinner ceremony on Nov. 15, when Annie Proulx and publisher Dick Robinson of Scholastic will receive honorary prizes.
