Rinne stopped 34 shots, Arvidsson and Boyle scored, and the Nashville Predators beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 to snap a three-game skid.
Rinne was sharp, especially in the second period, when he turned aside all 21 Montreal shots he faced.
"I thought Pekka was outstanding," Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said.
Kings trade Thompson to Canadiens

Canadiens acquire Folin, Weise in trade with Flyers
MONTREAL (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Dale Weise and defenseman Christian Folin from the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday for David Schlemko and Byron Froese.
The Canadiens also announced they had waived defenseman Karl Alzner.
Weise, a former Canadien, has played 42 games in 2018-19 with five goals and six assists. The 30-year-old had 59 points in 152 games with Montreal from 2013-2016.
Andre Boudrias, former Vancouver Canucks captain, dies at 75
WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP) — Andre Boudrias, the former Vancouver Canucks captain and Montreal Canadiens assistant general manager, has died. He was 75.
The Canadiens said Boudrias died Tuesday in Whistler. A cause of death wasn't given.
Rookie Kotkaniemi scores again, Canadiens beat Ducks 4-1
MONTREAL (AP) — Jesperi Kotkaniemi needed just 54 games to etch his name in the Montreal Canadiens' record book.
He became the first 18-year-old in franchise history to score in three consecutive games as Montreal downed the slumping Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Tuesday night.
The Finn's first-period goal helped the Canadiens improved to 7-1-1 in their last nine games.
"It's obviously special to do something like that in this kind of organization," Kotkaniemi said. "It's a good thing."
Nico Hischier scores in OT, Devils beat Canadiens 3-2
MONTREAL (AP) — Nico Hischier wore the alternate captain's "A'' on his jersey for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old Swiss star has fast become a leader for the New Jersey Devils.
Hischier scored at 1:56 of overtime after tying it midway through the third period in the Devils' 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Hischier tied it at 11:26 of the third, getting his stick on a loose puck in the slot.

For coach Claude Julien, this win was as much a credit to his video replay coaches as anybody else.
Officials overturned Alex Galchenyuk's would-be tying goal late in the third period, and the Canadiens held off the Arizona Coyotes 2-1 on Wednesday night.

NEW YORK (AP) — Montreal Canadiens forward Paul Byron was suspended for three games without pay by the NHL on Wednesday for charging Florida Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar.
Byron was assessed a minor penalty for charging in the second period of Montreal's 5-1 home victory Tuesday night. The suspension will cost Byron $18,817.
Byron has 10 goals and eight assists in 34 games this season.
Niemi makes 52 saves, Canadiens stop Panthers 5-1
MONTREAL (AP) — Antti Niemi experienced two firsts in net for the Montreal Canadiens.
First, Niemi made a career-high 52 stops as the Canadiens extended their win streak to three games with a 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.
Niemi finished one save shy of the Canadiens' franchise record for saves in a game by a goaltender.
With seconds ticking off the clock in the third period, the Bell Centre fans chanted Niemi's name after every big save.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jordan Binnington has played in 204 minor league games, plenty of time to wonder if he'd ever make an NHL start.
The long wait was worth it for the rookie St. Louis Blues goaltender.
Binnington made 28 saves and Oskar Sundqvist added a goal and an assist to lead the Blues to a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
Binnington improved to 2-0 after becoming the 35th goaltender in NHL history to record a shutout in his first career start on Monday at Philadelphia.
Petry helps Canadiens hold off Red Wings 3-2
DETROIT (AP) — Jeff Petry finally scored a goal against the Red Wings in Detroit, and it turned out to be decisive.
Petry scored 19 seconds into the third period, and the Montreal Canadiens held on for a 3-2 victory over the Red Wings on Tuesday night. Petry, a Michigan native, is the son of former Tigers pitcher Dan Petry, who was a member of the Detroit team that won the World Series in 1984. Jeff Petry's goal Tuesday was the 54th of his NHL career, but the first in Detroit.

TORONTO (AP) — Nashville Predators star P.K. Subban has reached out to a teenage hockey player facing racial abuse.
The defenseman recorded a video and texted it to Ty Cornett, a 13-year-old Detroit-area hockey player last week.
His father, Matthew Cornett, shared the video , which was recorded in Detroit during the Predators' visit to the city last week, on Reddit.
Granlund, Dubnyk lead Wild past Canadiens 1-0
MONTREAL (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens lost their game to the Minnesota Wild, but not their captain.
Mikael Granlund scored, Devan Dubnyk stopped 32 shots for his first shutout of the season and the Wild defeated the Canadiens 1-0 Monday night.
The Canadiens got good news about Shea Weber, who was hit in the face with the puck while blocking a shot in the first period.
The Canadiens' captain will travel with the team on a two-game trip, starting Tuesday night in Detroit.
Smith scores twice, Predators top Canadiens 4-1
MONTREAL (AP) — All eyes were on P.K. Subban and Shea Weber. Craig Smith stole the show.
Smith scored twice and the Nashville Predators defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 on Saturday night in the second matchup between Subban and Weber since the blockbuster trade in 2016.
Weber scored against his former team and Subban had two assists in a game in which Smith's team-leading 13th and 14th goals of the season were the difference.
Erne scores tiebreaker late, Lightning beat Canadiens 6-5
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Adam Erne made a strong case for more playing time with the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning.
The 23-year-old forward scored twice in the third period, including the go-ahead goal with 1:02 left, and the Lightning extended their point streak to 14 games with a 6-5 victory Saturday night over the Montreal Canadiens.
After tying it 5-all at 9:36 of the third, Erne got the winner from the right circle.
NHL fines Canadiens’ Danault $5K for tripping Ekblad
NEW YORK (AP) — Montreal Canadiens forward Phillip Danault was fined $5,000 for a dangerous trip against Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad.
Danault tripped Ekblad with about 2 1/2 minutes remaining in Montreal's 5-3 win at Florida on Friday night. Danault was given a roughing penalty on the play. The NHL announced the fine Saturday.
