Ionescu, a junior who went to high school in nearby Orinda, enjoyed a terrific homecoming weekend. The Ducks (6-0) routed UC Riverside on Friday before cruising by the host Gaels (3-2), and Ionescu was named the tournament's MVP.

Ionescu had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists, and No. 3 Oregon coasted to a 94-44 victory over UC Riverside on Friday in the opener of the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic.

Northern California toddler left for hours in hot car dies
MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a toddler has died after being left for hours in a hot car in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Police in Moraga received a 911 call Wednesday afternoon about the girl, who wasn't breathing. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities identified her Wednesday as 19-month-old Lily Aracic of Oakland.

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Northern California police say a 19-month-old girl has died after being left alone for hours in the back seat of a hot car.
Moraga Police Chief Jon King said Wednesday that the family is devastated after a family member left the girl in the car for several hours. King said the same family member found the girl not breathing around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday.
Utah makes NIT semis, tops St. Mary’s in OT 67-58

MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Northern California say skeleton remains found by a hiker have been identified as a man missing for nearly two decades.
The East Bay Times reports (http://bayareane.ws/2vEkPFg) officials say a DNA test revealed the remains belonged to 37-year-old Richard Allen Saimons, who was reported missing on Aug. 2, 1998.
Moraga police Chief Jon King says a hiker found the remains on March 16 in an open space in Moraga.
MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Former Stanislaus State athletic director Mike Matoso has been hired for the same role at Saint Mary's.
School President James A. Donahue announced Thursday that Matoso will replace Mark Orr, who left to become AD at Sacramento State. Matoso will begin his new job July 19.
Matoso had spent the past five years at Division II Stanislaus State and before that he had been a senior associate athletic director at the University of San Diego for 13 years.
