Hailie Deegan, 17, becomes 1st female winner in NASCAR K&N
MERIDIAN, Idaho (AP) — Seventeen-year-old Hailie Deegan used a bump-and-run on her teammate to become the first female winner of a NASCAR K&N West Series race. Her last-lap shove of Cole Rouse at Meridian Speedway in Idaho gave her the victory.

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) — There are three questions that Hailie Deegan gets from everybody she comes across, and while she insists they're not necessarily annoying, they certainly are persistent.

Tomac rises to the top of the motocross world
Eli Tomac was not sure if he would function normally, much less effectively race a motorcycle again, after a scary crash in 2015.
Riding at his home state track in Lakewood, Colorado, he caught a rut and had his bike turn violently to the side. Tomac continued to fly forward and slammed face first into the hard dirt.
Kanon Douglas, Ryder Kaui, Alexander Nelson, and Kyle DuVall topped the riders at the Kauai Moto Cross Association’s final race of the year at the Wailua motocross track Sunday.
Devin Parado, KMXA president, said the racers took advantage of a new track layout for the final race of this year.
MILLVILLE — John Martin gets a big smile when asked what his earliest memories of Henry Miller are.
Martin, the owner of Spring Creek MX Park, eagerly tells the story of Miller's mother, Kim, asking him what the best way for Henry to learn the basics of motocross would be. Martin took Miller, then only 6 or 7 years old, near the starting gates at Spring Creek and made a makeshift figure-8 track.

MILLVILLE — Thousands of spectators flocked to Spring Creek MX Park just outside of Millville on Saturday to attend the AMA Pro National motocross races.
Between 20,000 and 30,000 people attended the event, which attracts local and national professional motocross riders and first-time and longtime fans.
This year marked the 35th anniversary of the event.
For Jason and Carie Gerdes, of Winona, it was their 20th straight year at Spring Creek.
The races, Carie Gerdes said, are always worth the trip.
Motocross: Spring Creek MX Park celebrating 35 years of hosting pro nationals
MILLVILLE — If only the track at Spring Creek MX Park could talk.
For more than three decades it has been tougher on the world's best motocross riders than they have been on it.
Saturday's AMA Pro National series races at Spring Creek will mark the 35th consecutive season the top riders from across the country and the world will converge on the track just outside of Millville.
Nick Jackson is happy with where his motocross career has taken him.
At 28 years old, the Zumbrota native and current Lake City resident said he knows the odds of landing a factory ride are slim.
"We know that time has come and gone," he said.
Jackson just wants to stay involved with the sport in as many ways as possible, but that doesn't mean his racing days are behind him.
Henry Miller isn't afraid to create his own breaks.
That's how he's done it for nearly 15 years.
And the Rochester native is close to making his biggest break yet.
Miller has quickly climbed the ranks of the top motocross circuit in the country, the AMA Pro National Series.
He's doing it in the series' top class, the 450 division.
And he's doing it on his own.
"We're as privateer as it gets," the 20-year-old said.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The X Games have arrived in Minneapolis.
The extreme-sport event takes place Thursday through Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium, the first time it's being held at an NFL stadium. The 1-year-old home of the Minnesota Vikings has been transformed into an indoor course for the skateboarding, BMX and motocross competition that began 22 years ago.
SOUTHWICK, Mass. (AP) — Eli Tomac swept the 450 Class motos Saturday in the Southwick National for his third straight Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship event victory and fourth of the season.
The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider from Cortez, Colorado, also won the opener at Hangtown in California and took the events the last two weeks at Tennessee and Michigan. He has nine career 450 Class victories, also winning at sandy Southwick last year.
For the last 25 years, motocross fans and riders have met in Buchanan, Mich., to celebrate the Fourth of July. Buchanan is home to the iconic Red Bull track.
The facility is a fan and rider favorite, with perhaps the most well-known obstacle on the circuit, Larocco's Leap, a 125-foot uphill triple jump.
The morning qualifying in the 250 class was topped by Millville's Jeremy Martin, and his brother Alex sat third, sandwiched between was series point leader Zach Osborne.

Joel Hetrick has been on the heels of Chad Wienen for a couple of years, watching Wienen finish ahead of him in motos, overalls and in the AMA Pro ATV Motocross national points standings.
For the second time this season, Hetrick swept two motos. For the third time this season, and the third time in the past four rounds of the AMA championship series, Hetrick won the overall.

Ryan Villopoto's surprise retirement in 2015 left motocross without one of its biggest stars. Ryan Dungey's equally surprising retirement earlier this year drained even more of the circuit's star power.

The KTM rider from Grand Terrace, California, raced to his second career 450 Class victory, winning the first moto and finishing second in the second.
Husqvarna's Jason Anderson was second. He was fifth in first moto and third in the second. Suzuki's Broc Tickle was third overall after finishing fourth in each moto.
WAILUA — The deep rumble of big motocross bikes was the normal sound heard during the weekends and holiday.
“We always open the track so people can ride,” said Davin Parado, operating president of the Kauai Moto X Association. “This is not a meet. We open the track so riders can have open riding.”
Sunday, the riders were on the track in Wailua as usual.

Ken Roczen races to second straight Supercross win
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Ken Roczen raced to his second straight AMA Supercross victory to open the season, beating Ryan Dungey in the 450SX Class at Petco Park.
Roczen has 11 career 450 victories, five last season. The Honda racer from Germany is coming off a 450 season title in the outdoor motocross series.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Ken Roczen won the season-opening AMA Supercross race at Angel Stadium on Saturday night, beating defending 450SX series champion Tony Dungey by nearly 15 seconds.
Roczen has 10 career 450 victories, five last season. The Honda racer from Germany is coming off a 450 season title in the outdoor motocross series.
