Oman officials say 2 British women hit by car, killed
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Officials in Oman say two British women are dead and one British man is injured after being hit by a car in the sultanate.
The Royal Oman Police said on Twitter on Friday the crash happened in Salalah near its Haffa market. It said the driver of the car did not have a license and an investigation into the crash had begun.
Oman's Tourism Ministry identified the victims' nationalities. It said the British man hit was in a local hospital in a stable condition.

The Boeing 737-800 with 78 passengers returned to Muscat, Oman's capital, 30 minutes after it took off from there, and the crew handed over the passenger to the police.
The plane later left for Cairo, arriving four hours behind schedule.

The 32-year-old Dutchman shot a 4-under 68 to finish on 16-under 272, two shots ahead of his friend, England's Chris Wood (69).

Iran, China hold joint naval drill in Persian Gulf
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's navy has conducted a joint exercise with a Chinese fleet near the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
The official IRNA news agency said Sunday's drill included an Iranian warship as well as two Chinese warships, a logistics ship and a Chinese helicopter that arrived in Iran's port of Bandar Abbas last week.
It said the scheduled exercise came before the departure of the Chinese fleet for Muscat, Oman. It did not provide further details.

Dubai-based airline Emirates said on Monday that one of its flights from Muscat, Oman, to Dubai was cancelled the previous day after a snake was spotted slithering in the cargo hold. Passengers hadn't yet boarded the Boeing 777.
The carrier says the serpent was eventually captured and the plane is back in service.

MUSCAT, Oman (AP) — Britain's Prince Charles brandished a sword and took part in a traditional dance Saturday on his trip to Oman with his wife Camilla, the first full day of the couple's three-nation royal tour of the Gulf.

Extreme Sailing Series regatta set for San Diego in 2017
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Extreme Sailing Series will return to the United States for the first time in six years when a regatta is sailed on San Diego Bay in 2017.
There also will be a regatta that year in Los Cabos, Mexico.
The Extreme Sailing Series is contested in fast, foiling 32-foot catamarans. Other stops on the tour are Muscat, Oman; Qingdao, China; Madeira, Portugal; Hamburg, Germany; and Cardiff, Wales.

Red Cross says female French hostage released in Yemen
SANAA, Yemen (AP) — A French-Tunisian woman working for the Red Cross has been released after nearly a year in captivity in Yemen, the International Committee of the Red Cross said late Monday.
An ICRC statement said that Nourane Houas had arrived in Oman's capital, Muscat, after being freed by her Yemeni captors.
Houas was kidnapped by a group of armed men on her way to work in Yemen's capital Sanaa on Dec. 1, 2015. A colleague with her was released unharmed a few hours later but she was held.
