SYLVAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities have suspended the search for a 15-year-old boy who fell through ice in the Muskegon River in the northern Lower Peninsula.
Dylan Shaw of Evart fell into the river with two more teens Thursday, but he was the only one who didn't get to shore.
Osceola County Sheriff Justin Halladay says searchers punched holes in the ice and used sonar equipment. But there's been no sign of Shaw's body. The site is in Sylvan Township, 85 miles north of Grand Rapids.
Searchers look for teen who fell through Muskegon River ice
SYLVAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a 15-year-old boy who fell through ice in the Muskegon River in the northern Lower Peninsula.
The Osceola County sheriff says two more teens who fell through the ice are safe, but a third teen didn't get to shore Thursday. A small boat and sonar equipment were being used in the search Friday.
Sheriff Justin Halladay described the conditions as "very cold, windy and snowing."
Bridge closes in western Michigan as ice jam raises river
NEWAYGO, Mich. (AP) — A bridge in a western Michigan community has been closed due to flooding from ice jams on the Muskegon River.
Newaygo County authorities say the ice jam is 17 miles long. The Muskegon River is above flood stage in the city of Newaygo, 40 miles (64 kilometers) north of Grand Rapids.
AAA: Michigan gas prices up 10 cents at $2.17 per gallon
DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — AAA Michigan says average gas prices statewide are up about 10 cents from a week ago to about $2.17 per gallon.
The Dearborn-based auto club says Monday the average price for self-serve regular unleaded is about 47 cents less than a year ago.
The state's highest average was about $2.21 a gallon in the Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Holland areas. The lowest average was about $2.09 in the Traverse City area.
Authorities: Suspect in death of man in trunk killed self
DALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a man found dead in the trunk of a burned-out vehicle in western Michigan was fatally shot by a man who later killed himself at a motel.
The Muskegon County sheriff's office issued an update on the investigation Thursday, saying 27-year-old Raymond Coleman Jr. of Muskegon was fatally shot Jan. 18 at a home in Montague. The burned vehicle was found the next day in the woods along a two-track road in Dalton Township.

Michigan college turning former funeral home into classrooms
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan community college plans to hold classes in the fall at a renovated former funeral home, as college officials look to stop leasing space and make a permanent investment in the community.
Muskegon Community College purchased the Clock Life Story Funeral Home building in Grand Haven for about $378,000, The Grand Haven Tribune reported.
Rose Parade float honors Michigan organ donor, 42 others
NORTON SHORES, Mich. (AP) — An organ donor from western Michigan is one of 43 from across the country featured on a Rose Parade float in Pasadena, California.
MLive.com reports that 21-year-old Shayna Sturtevant of Norton Shores died in 2016 after an ear infection abscessed to her brain. Six of her organs were later donated, saving three lives.

Police say man killed by crossbow arrow in western Michigan
NORTON SHORES, Mich. (AP) — Police in western Michigan say a 20-year-old man died after being hit by a crossbow arrow.
The Norton Shores Police Department says the man was found wounded on the driveway of his home Wednesday night in the city just south of Muskegon along Lake Michigan.
The department says emergency workers tried to revive the man but he died at the scene.

The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians wants to turn a former race track, Great Lakes Downs, into a casino in Fruitport Township, about 30 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, WZZM-TV reported.
