DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Sung Hyun Park of South Korea has become the first LPGA Tour rookie to reach No. 1 in the world.
Park replaced So Yeon Ryu atop the women's world ranking Monday without playing last week. Ryu lost the No. 1 ranking after 19 weeks when she failed to finish in a tie for sixth at the Toto Japan Classic.
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — The ShopRite LPGA Classic in the shadow of Atlantic City, New Jersey has been extended through 2023.
The LPGA, Wakefern Food Corp and the Eiger Marketing Group announced the five-year sponsorship extension Wednesday, two days before the start of this year's 54-hole event at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club.
The tournament was first played in 1986 and was known as the Atlantic City Classic. Wakefern became the title sponsor in 1992.
Woosnam, Love, Ochoa, Mallon chosen for Hall of Fame
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) — Ian Woosnam, Davis Love III, Meg Mallon and Lorena Ochoa have been selected for the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Also selected Tuesday for induction was Henry Longhurst, a London Sunday Times columnist who later became a golf commentator for the BBC.
The induction will be Sept. 26 in New York.
PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — Eun Jeong Seong rallied to beat Andrea Lee 4 and 2 on Saturday in the U.S. Girls' Junior to become the first player to successfully defend the title since Hollis Stacy in 1971.
