A former Redskins quarterback is a Nick Foles injury away from playing in Sunday's Super Bowl.
Nate Sudfeld, the Redskins' sixth-round selection in 2016, will be the backup quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles when they take on the New England Patriots.

Redskins cut Nate Sudfeld, go with 2 quarterbacks
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Even with uncertainty about the future of Kirk Cousins, the Washington Redskins cut Nate Sudfeld to go with just two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster.
Sudfeld, a developmental prospect after being a sixth-round pick out of Indiana in 2016, was among the team's most notable cuts made Saturday before the deadline. Cousins is playing a second consecutive season on the franchise tag and could cost $34 million if retained under the same terms in 2018.
Don’t expect any fireworks at the key position during this year’s camp. Kirk Cousins is firmly entrenched as the No. 1 quarterback, and as such will receive the bulk of the snaps with the first-team offense during drills.
Likewise, Colt McCoy is fully trusted by the coaching staff as the No. 2, and his experience in the system means he won’t need extra reps just to get up to speed — coach Jay Gruden feels McCoy can enter a game and run the entire playbook to success.

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — First-round pick Josh Doctson is active for the Washington Redskins' season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have released veteran defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins and waived fifth-round pick Matt Ioannidis to cut down to their initial 53-man roster.
The team announced the moves after the 4 p.m. Saturday deadline.
DIFFERENCE MAKER: OL Dan Feeney. Indiana has had one characteristic during head coach Kevin Wilson’s tenure: pass-first offenses. But this team is set up to be a better rushing team, and the 6-foot-4, 310-pound All-American right guard is a big reason why. He spurned the NFL to come back to Bloomington.
