Nathan Elliott passed for 308 yards and two touchdowns to help North Carolina beat Western Carolina 49-26 on Saturday.
Javonte Williams rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns for the Tar Heels (2-8), who ended a six-game losing streak.
Oliver leads Yellow Jackets past Tar Heels 38-28
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Tobias Oliver got his chance and ran with it.
Oliver rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and passed for a score to help Georgia Tech beat North Carolina 38-28 on Saturday.
Oliver broke a 28-28 tie with a 1-yard touchdown run with three minutes remaining for the Yellow Jackets (5-4, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won for the fourth time in five games.
UNC to start Fortin at QB, gets waiver for Carney to play

Former LSU quarterback Brandon Harris took the first snaps as North Carolina's quarterback in the Tar Heels' season opener Saturday against the University of California in Chapel Hill.
UNC coach Larry Fedora split preseason practice reps between four players: Harris, third-year sophomore Nathan Elliott and redshirt freshmen Chazz Surratt and Logan Byrd.
After going 1-for-2 for 2 yards in the first two series, Harris gave way to Surratt.

Harris was competing with redshirt freshman Chazz Surratt and last year's No. 2 Nathan Elliott through preseason camp, while another redshirt freshman — Logan Byrd — also was in the mix.
Coach Larry Fedora hadn't publicly named a starter, insisting this week he was still waiting for one player to separate from the pack.

Tar Heels backup QB Caleb Henderson leaves program
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina reserve quarterback Caleb Henderson is transferring.
Team spokesman Bobby Hundley said Saturday in an email to The Associated Press that the redshirt sophomore had left the program. Henderson was competing against redshirt freshman Nathan Elliott for the No. 2 job behind starter Mitch Trubisky.
Henderson tweeted Saturday that transferring "was a family decision" and "had nothing to do with football."
