Davis Cup: Australia and France lead 2-1 in semifinals
LILLE, France (AP) — Two-time Grand Slam champions Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert beat Filip Krajinovic and Nenad Zimonjic 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 (3) for France to lead Serbia 2-1 in the Davis Cup semifinals on Saturday.
Apart from a scare in the third set when the Serb pair won four games in a row, Mahut and Herbert were in control on the indoor clay court and put France one win away from its 18th Davis Cup final.
Pouille to open for France in Davis Cup semifinals
LILLE, France (AP) — Lucas Pouille and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will lead nine-time champion France in the opening singles against Serbia in the Davis Cup semifinals.
In the absence of Novak Djokovic, Pouille will take on 80th-ranked Dusan Lajovic on clay at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in the northern city of Lille. Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic are also missing for Serbia.
Tsonga will then play against 22-year-old Davis Cup debutant Laslo Djere.

Donald Young and Santiago Gonzalez are through to the men's doubles final at the French Open.
Young, who is from the United States, and his Mexican partner beat Fernando Verdasco of Spain and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-3.
Neither Young nor Gonzalez have ever been in the final of a Grand Slam tournament.
Serbia & France set up Davis Cup semifinal
Serbia and France won their Davis Cup quarterfinals on Saturday to set up their first match since the 2010 final.
France will host the semifinal in September, and will hope leading stars Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gael Monfils, and Richard Gasquet are fit and available to face Novak Djokovic and Co, who beat them in the 2010 final 3-2 in Belgrade.

Viktor Troicki and Nenad Zimonjic beat Pablo Carreno Busta and Marc Lopez 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 in three hours.
Serbia has an unassailable 3-0 lead, and will go to France in the semifinals in September.

In Belgrade, Serb Novak Djokovic returned in style after an elbow injury, sweeping past Albert Ramos Vinolas of Spain 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on indoor hard courts.
"I'm very satisfied with my play, especially my serve," said the second-ranked Djokovic, who withdrew from the recent Miami Open because of a right elbow injury.

Thursday's draw also pits Viktor Troicki against Pablo Carreno Busta in the best-of-five series played on an indoor hard court in the Serbian capital.
On Saturday, the doubles will feature Nenad Zimonjic and Troicki against Marc Lopez and Jaume Munar. Reverse singles are scheduled for Sunday.
Djokovic in, Nadal out for Serbia-Spain Davis Cup
MADRID (AP) — Rafael Nadal will miss Spain's Davis Cup quarterfinal against Serbia and the chance to take on Novak Djokovic in Belgrade next month.
Nadal, the 14-time Grand Slam champion, was not in the team announced by Spain captain Conchita Martinez on Tuesday. No reason was given.
Djokovic returns to Davis Cup against Russia
NIS, Serbia (AP) — Novak Djokovic will play Daniil Medvedev in the second singles match as he makes a return for Serbia in the first round of the Davis Cup against Russia.
Djokovic will be playing his first match since an unexpected second-round loss to Denis Istomin at the Australian Open.
In Thursday's draw, Viktor Troicki was picked to face Karen Khachanov in Friday's opening singles on an indoor hard court.
Djokovic to lead Serbia against Russia in Davis Cup
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Novak Djokovic will lead his native Serbia against Russia in the first round of the Davis Cup next month.
Serbia state TV on Sunday quoted Djokovic as saying that he is "always happy" to play in the competition. He says "it is a special feeling when we are together playing for our country."
Djokovic was beaten in the second round of the Australian Open by No. 117-ranked wild-card entry Denis Istomin.
Nenad Zimonjic named Serbia’s Davis Cup captain
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Doubles specialist Nenad Zimonjic has been named Serbia's Davis Cup captain.
The 40-year-old Zimonjic replaces Bogdan Obradovic, who led Serbia to its only Davis Cup title in 2010.
Zimonjic, who will for now remain captain-player, has won 53 titles in doubles on the ATP tour. He has a record 69 appearances for the national team, including 41 wins.
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Kyle Edmund will open for defending champion Britain against Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in the Davis Cup quarterfinals on Friday.
In the second opening singles, James Ward will play Dusan Lajovic.
Both teams were without their top stars; Wimbledon champion Andy Murray for Britain, and top-ranked Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki for Serbia.
Murray still arrived in the Serbian capital on Thursday to support the team.
