Attorney Robert Berke says he has filed his intent to sue Southington and New Britain police after his client Benjamin Morales' arrest.
Berke says Morales was arrested at a Southington hotel at 4 a.m. on Feb. 5 and handcuffed for several hours during a police search for the suspect in the killing of Alice Marie Figueroa.
Connecticut man sentenced for role in cocaine ring
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for his role in a cocaine distribution ring that was run out of prison by another man.
Federal prosecutors say 42-year-old Orlando Quiros, of New Britain and Suffield, was also sentenced Thursday to five years of probation.
Authorities say he received multi-kilogram parcels of cocaine from Puerto Rico through the mail and distributed the drug to others dealers.

Former town councilor to avoid prison in teen sex case
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — A former Connecticut town councilor facing charges connected to his sexual relationship with a teenager has avoided prison time.
Jon Landry pleaded no contest to a charge of harassment Thursday in exchange for a 30-day suspended sentence as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.
A judge also ordered Landry to have no contact with the now 22-year-old woman as part of his plea. Violating the protective order could result in up to 10 years in prison.

Police: 28-year-old woman slain, suspect remains at large
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut are looking for an "armed and dangerous" man suspected of fatally shooting a woman.
New Britain police responding to reports of gunfire just before 6 p.m. Monday found the 28-year-old victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital where she died. Her name was not released.
Police identified 43-year-old Benjamin Morales as a suspect in the case.

Justin Hapgood is charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the shooting Tuesday night of 34-year-old Erik Rivera.
A 17-year-old youth, whose name has been released because of his age, has been charged as an accessory. He told police Rivera had been harassing them for marijuana.
2 teens arrested in fatal shooting of New Britain man
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man in New Britain.
Police say 18-year-old Justin Hapgood is charged with murder in the death Tuesday night of 34-year-old Erik Rivera. A 17-year-old youth, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged with accessory to murder. He was also held on $2 million bond.
Rivera was shot at about 7:40 p.m. and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police: Man smashed 3-year-old child’s head on floor
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut say a man smashed a 3-year-old girl's head on a concrete floor, fracturing her skull, because she said something rude to him.
New Britain police charged 24-year-old Frank Alezander Santiago with first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. The child is the daughter of Santiago's girlfriend.
He was ordered held on $750,000 bond at his arraignment Monday in New Britain.

5 Connecticut police officers cleared in fatal shooting
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Investigators have determined that five Connecticut police officers who shot at and killed a rapper during an investigation into a series of carjackings and robberies were justified in their use of deadly force.
The investigation by Fairfield State's Attorney John Smriga was released Thursday.
Police said 20-year-old Zoe Dowdell, a rapper known as "Gangstalicious," was in a car with two teens on Dec. 14, 2017, when New Britain police tried to pull him over.

Police justified in fatal shooting after high-speed chase

State gives $3.6M to municipalities to redevelop brownfields
