Police: 1 address fired 360 shots at New Year’s Eve party
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City police say people at one address fired 360 shots from at least nine guns to celebrate New Year's Eve.
Police Chief Rick Smith posted a picture of the bullet casings on his blog Tuesday. It is illegal to fire guns in celebration in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Star reports police used a ShotSpotter gunshot detection system to find the address, which is in east Kansas City.

VENTNOR, N.J. (AP) — A dispute at a New Year's Eve party in southern New Jersey ended with a shooting that left a man hospitalized.
Ventnor police say the shooting was reported around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at a city home.
The victim, identified only as a 26-year Hillside man, was attending the party when the argument broke out and shots were fired. Authorities were trying to determine if the man was involved in the argument and if he was the shooter's intended target.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say that 11 people celebrating New Year's Eve on the Las Vegas Strip were hospitalized Monday night.
Clark County spokesman Erik Pappa said in an emailed statement early Tuesday that three people were taken to the hospital for alcohol-related reasons, two were taken to the hospital for drug-related reasons and two people fainted.

Officials say two men in their 20s were shot at the Residence Inn parking lot on Main Street in Hartford.

Strategic Command apologizes for tweet about dropping bomb
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees America's nuclear and missile arsenal, boasted in a New Year's Eve tweet that it's ready if ever needed "to drop something much, much bigger" than the Times Square ball.
The tweet was accompanied by video of B-2 bombers dropping two 30,000-pound conventional weapons at a test range, according to CNN, which aired the video.

NEW YORK (AP) — MTV is expanding its live events business in the U.S. by acquiring the SnowGlobe Music Festival.
The three-day New Year's Eve festival takes place in South Lake Tahoe, California. This year's lineup includes Above & Beyond, Diplo, Eric Prydz, Rezz and RL Grime headlining among more than 40 artists. SnowGlobe will also showcase extreme winter sports demonstrations.
Man charged with setting off fireworks to steal Rolex
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Police have arrested a man they say was part of a ruse to set off fireworks inside a massive Florida outlet mall on New Year's Eve to steal a nearly $17,000 Rolex watch.
Twenty-two year-old Kevin Triana was arrested in Greenville, South Carolina on Sunday. Orange County Sheriff's deputies say they're still looking for the man who set off the fireworks that allowed Triana to escape with the pricey watch.

Thieves set off fireworks at Florida mall to steal Rolex
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Police are looking for the suspects who set off fireworks inside a massive Florida outlet mall on New Year's Eve as a ruse to steal an $11,400 Rolex watch.
Sunrise Police say surveillance video shows a man trying on the Rolex at the Zales store at Sawgrass Mills. When the fireworks went off, frantic shoppers and employees ran for cover, hiding in stock rooms. The video shows the man running out the door with the pricey watch still on his wrist after the explosions start.
Omaha to hold delayed New Year’s Eve fireworks show
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha residents will celebrate New Year's Eve — about a week late.
Severe cold weather on Dec. 31 forced organizers of the Omaha Holiday Lights Festival New Year's Eve Fireworks Spectacular to postpone last week's show.
The fireworks show is now being held Saturday night in Omaha's downtown Gene Leahy Mall, with a brief ceremony and countdown by Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert.

Las Vegas New Year’s Eve revelers leave behind tons of trash
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Street sweepers picked up between 10 and 12 tons of trash left behind by New Year's Eve revelers on the Las Vegas Strip.
Clark County spokesman Erik Pappa says 26 street sweepers from the county and the Nevada Department of Transportation were used in the cleanup effort Monday.
Partygoers left behind countless plastic cups, hats, shoes and many other things.
$1.2 million in damage from fireworks in Harris County
HOUSTON (AP) — The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office says a dozen fires blamed on fireworks in unincorporated areas of Texas' most populous county over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day caused about $1.2 million in damage.
Fire Marshal Mike Montgomery says seven of the blazes were the result of improperly discarded fireworks. He says that problem could be eased if people discarded fireworks in water and in a metal trash can away from buildings or combustible materials.
‘Negligent’ discharge of Las Vegas police rifle injures man
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas say a man suffered a minor injury after the rifle of an officer on the Las Vegas Strip discharged following the New Year's Eve festivities.
Officer Laura Meltzer says the officer was moving barricades around 1:19 a.m. Monday near the Monte Carlo casino-hotel when he had a "negligent discharge."
