NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. national player Keaton Parks has been acquired by New York City FC on loan from the Portuguese club Benfica for the 2019 season.
The 21-year-old Texan is a versatile central midfielder. He joined Varzim of Portugal in 2015 when he turned 18 and then signed with Benfica in 2017.
He made his national team debut in May, entering in the 62nd minute of a 3-0 victory over Bolivia in Philadelphia.
New York City FC MF Lewis added to US roster for camp
CHICAGO (AP) — New York City FC midfielder Jonathan Lewis has been added to the U.S. roster for its January training camp.
The 21-year-old Lewis is one of 13 uncapped players on Gregg Berhalter's first roster with the national team. Berhalter was hired as U.S. coach on Dec. 2.
Lewis was part of the U.S. squad that won the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 title.
David Villa leaving New York City FC

The 36-year-old Spanish forward and World Cup winner spent four seasons with the team as its first captain. He plans to continue playing but has not said where.

Atlanta United’s Martino voted MLS coach of year
ATLANTA (AP) — Gerardo "Tata" Martino was voted coach of the year in Major League Soccer on Tuesday in his last season with Atlanta United.
Martino guided Atlanta through another record-breaking season. Backed by record crowds, Atlanta United won a playoff series for the first time by beating New York City FC in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Atlanta will play the New York Red Bulls in the first leg of the conference final Nov. 25.

Almiron returns, McCann out for playoff series against NYCFC
ATLANTA (AP) — MVP finalist Miguel Almiron is set to return for Atlanta United in the MLS playoffs, but the team will be without defender Chris McCann because of strained left quad.
Manager Tata Martino said Almiron is available for Sunday's Eastern Conference semifinal game against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium after missing the final two matches of the regular season with a hamstring injury. The All-Star midfielder tallied 12 goals and 14 assists this season.

NEW YORK (AP) — David Villa tied it in the 86th minute off a free kick and New York City FC snapped a two-game skid with a 1-1 draw with D.C. United on Saturday.
Bill Hamid had seven of his eight saves before Villa broke through with a bender from just beyond the top of the penalty arc for City (14-8-7). It was Villa's 11th goal of the season.
NYCFC had 68.3 percent of possession and outshot D.C. United 31-2.
Revolution hand New York City FC 1st home loss
NEW YORK (AP) — Brian Wright scored his first MLS goal in the 71st minute and the New England Revolution beat New York City 1-0 on Wednesday night for FC's first home loss of the season.
New England (8-10-9) snapped a nine-game winless streak to move within three points of sixth-place Montreal. NYC (14-8-6) has just one win in its last seven games.
Wright was in front of the goal to one-touch home Cristian Penilla's blocked shot from the left side.
Afful and Meram help Crew beat NYCFC 2-1
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Harrison Afful and Justin Meram scored in the second half to help the Columbus Crew beat New York City FC 2-1 on Saturday night.
Afful had his shot attempt from about 30 yards blocked by Alexander Ring. The rebound came directly back to Afful, who bent it into the right corner to tie it in the 61st minute.
Meram headed home Pedro Santos' corner two minutes later to give the Crew (12-8-7) the lead.

NEW YORK (AP) — Erik Hurtado scored in the 87th minute to give the Vancouver Whitecaps a 2-2 tie with New York City FC on Saturday night.
Brek Shea sent in a wide cross and Hurtado one-timed it from behind the right side of the 6-yard box into the middle of the net.
Nicolas Mezquida opened the scoring for the Whitecaps (8-9-6) in the 22nd minute with a low hard shot from behind the penalty arc.
Resurgent Sounders beat New York City FC 3-1
CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Zlatan Ibrahimovic had his first MLS hat trick, scoring the tying and go-ahead goals in a 4-minute span in the second in the LA Galaxy's 4-3 victory over Orlando City on Sunday night.
The 36-year-old Swedish star tied it at 3 in the 67th minute on a diving header off Ola Kamara's feed, then put the Galaxy in front in the 71st with a short hard kick after he headed down a rebound. He celebrated by ripping off his jersey.
SEATTLE (AP) — Here go the Seattle Sounders once again recovering from an awful start to the season to make a summer run toward a playoff berth.

NYCFC snaps Montreal Impact’s 4-game win streak 3-0
NEW YORK (AP) — Ronald Matarrita had a goal and an assist to lead New York City FC to a 3-0 victory over the Montreal Impact on Wednesday night.
Matarrita entered as a substitute in the 62nd minute. Three minutes later, his chip caught Montreal goalkeeper Evan Bush out of position and found its way to the side netting to make it 2-0.
Maturita assisted on Jonathan Lewis' first MLS goal in the 76th minute, which was a header that glanced in off the right post.
NYCFC beat Red Bulls with Moralez’s late goal
NEW YORK (AP) — Maximiliano Moralez got the breakthrough goal in the 85th minute and New York City FC beat the New York Red Bulls 1-0 on Sunday.
The Red Bulls' Aaron Long mismanaged Tyler Adams' back pass and NYCFC's Jonathan Lewis pounced on the loose ball. Lewis then sent over a cross that found its way through Long's legs to Moralez, who put it into the net with a straightforward finish.
Sean Johnson had four saves to record his sixth clean sheet of the season for City (10-4-4).
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) — Aleksandar Katai scored twice early in the second half to help the Chicago Fire beat New York City FC 3-2 on Saturday night.
Katai first goal came in the 47th minute to make it 2-all for Chicago (6-7-5). Katai isolated defender Ben Sweat on a run up the right channel and bent a low left-footed shot inside the far post.
Five minutes later, Katai slipped through a pair of defenders and beat goalkeeper Sean Johnson to make it 3-2.
Torrent wins in NYCFC debut, 2-1 over Toronto FC
NEW YORK (AP) — Jo Inge Berget scored twice and coach Domenec Torrent celebrated his New York City FC debut with a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC on Sunday.
Berget made it 2-1 in the 68th minute, following Maximiliano Moralez's direct pass up the right channel and slotting it home.
NYCFC (9-3-4) tied it at 1 in the 51st minute on Berget's back heel from the top of the 6-yard box.
NICE, France (AP) — Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira was hired as manager of the French club Nice on Monday after leaving as coach of New York City FC.
Vieira replaces Lucien Favre at Nice. New York City FC said Domenec Torrent will succeed Vieira at the Major League Soccer club. Torrent will begin in New York once his U.S. work permit is approved.
NYCFC, Atlanta United play to 1-1 draw
NEW YORK (AP) — Alexander Callens tied it in the 77th minute and New York City FC settled for a 1-1 draw with Atlanta United on Saturday in a matchup of two of the top Eastern Conference teams.

NYCFC (8-3-4) had two shots crash off the post after the 80th minute and finished the game with a 10-2 advantage in shots on target.

It was NYCFC's first home game after the Spanish forward scored his 400th goal in all competitions on April 29.
NYCFC (7-2-3) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Yangel Herrera intercepted a clearance attempt and fed it back to Maximiliano Moralez, who connected with Villa for the finish.
Red Bulls roll past NYCFC 4-0 in NY Derby
HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — Alejandro Romero "Kaku" Gamarra had a goal and two assists to help the New York Red Bulls dominate crosstown rival New York City FC 4-0 in the NY Derby on Saturday.
The Red Bulls (5-3-0) opened the scoring in the second minute when an outstretched Sean Johnson deflected Bradley Wright-Phillips' shot into Kaku's path for a putback.
Two minutes later, Kaku sent a through ball to Florian Valot, who punched it through with a deflection off defender Alexander Callens.

Timbers hand NYCFC first loss of the season with 3-0 win
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — With a victory over previously undefeated New York City, the Timbers collected their second win after a disappointing start to the season.
Sebastian Blanco, Fanendo Adi and Larrys Mabiala scored and the Portland Timbers ended New York City FC's season-opening undefeated streak at seven games with a 3-0 victory Sunday.
"Today's a great win. We deserve this, 100 percent. We worked really hard the last two games," Blanco said.

David Villa, playing his second match after a three-game absence with a quadriceps injury, had a goal and an assist for New York City (5-0-2).

NYCFC stays unbeaten with 2-1 win over Earthquakes
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Maximiliano Moralez had a goal and an assist and New York City FC beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 on Saturday night.
Ismael Tajouri dribbled it to the right side of the penalty box from about 40 yards out and fed it to Maximiliano Moralez who, with the help of a deflection off Yeferson Quintana, made it 2-1 for NYCFC (4-0-1) in the 60th minute.
Anton Tinnerholm smashed home a volley to finish Moralez's corner to tie the game in the 49th minute.
