NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Liberty have a new owner and get to keep their NBA ties.
An investment group led by Brooklyn Nets minority owner Joseph Tsai has bought the Liberty, the WNBA announced Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed. Tsai, co-founder of the e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, bought a 49 percent interest in the Nets in April.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Liberty are finally about to have a new owner.
An investment group led by Brooklyn Nets minority owner Joseph Tsai has agreed to buy the New York Liberty, pending approval by the NBA Board of Governors, two people familiar with the purchase told The Associated Press on Monday. They said the WNBA Board of Governors approved the sale a few days ago.
Those speaking to the AP did so on condition of anonymity because no announcement has been made.
A year later, the New York Liberty still for sale
NEW YORK (AP) — It's been a year since James Dolan announced his intent to sell the New York Liberty, and the team is still on the market.
There have been several potential buyers and a few have gotten close to purchasing the team, but for various reasons all the potential deals fell through. Even without a new owner on the horizon and the Liberty in the same situation as last November, there is no danger of the team ceasing to exist this winter.
Stewart has double-double, Storm secure top seed in playoffs
SEATTLE (AP) — Breanna Stewart had 22 points and 15 rebounds and the Seattle Storm beat the New York Liberty 85-77 on Friday night to secure the top seed in the WNBA playoffs.
Seattle (25-8) has won 15 of its last 18 games and has home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.
McBride has 15 points in 4th, Aces move into 8th-place tie
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A'ja Wilson had 18 of her 19 points in the first half, Kayla McBride scored all 15 of her points in the fourth quarter and the Las Vegas Aces beat the short-handed New York Liberty 85-72 on Wednesday night to move into a tie for the final playoff spot.
Las Vegas (14-18) and Dallas are tied for eighth — with a series meeting Friday in Texas. The Wings own the tiebreaker.
Gray scores career-high 26, Sparks beat Liberty 74-66
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chelsea Gray scored a career-high 26 points, Nneka Ogwumike had 20 points and eight rebounds, and the Los Angeles Sparks beat the New York Liberty 74-66 on Tuesday night.
Los Angeles (19-13) is tied with Connecticut for the fourth playoff spot — with the Sun holding the tiebreaker. The teams face off Sunday to end the regular reason.
Candace Parker added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Sparks. She passed Swin Cash for 11th on the WNBA career rebounding list with 2,530.
Dream’s Renee Montgomery hits 8 3s to tie WNBA record
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Renee Montgomery hit eight 3-pointers to match to WNBA regular-season record and scored a season-high 30 points to help the Atlanta Dream beat the New York Liberty 86-77 on Sunday for their sixth straight victory.
Diana Taurasi, Riquna Williams and Shekinna Stricklen also have hit eight 3-pointers in a game. Montgomery had 25 points in the second half, hitting seven 3-pointers to break the WNBA record for a half — one more than Taurasi, Sue Bird and Sami Whitcomb.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Chelsea Gray scored 19 points, Candace Parker had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists and the Los Angeles Sparks beat the New York Liberty 82-81 on Wednesday night.
Riquna Williams and Essence Carson each made a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions to give Los Angeles a 78-73 lead with 1:36 to go.
Gray made it 80-75 after two free throws and Nneka Ogwumike added two more on the Sparks' next possession for a four-point lead.
Stewart, Howard help Storm beat Liberty 96-80
NEW YORK (AP) — Breanna Stewart and the Seattle Storm weren't concerned when the New York Liberty made a run to take a lead early in the fourth quarter.
They knew it was only a matter of time before they went on their own burst to put the game away.
The Storm scored 15 straight points to turn a two-point deficit into a 13-point lead and never looked back in a 96-80 victory over the Liberty on Monday at a camp day game at Madison Square Garden.
Jones hits late 3s, Sun beat Liberty 92-77
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Jonquel Jones scored 21 points while Courtney Williams added 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists to help the Connecticut Sun beat the New York Liberty 92-77 on Wednesday night.
Layshia Clarendon beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter with a runner in the lane to extend Connecticut's lead to 64-58. The Sun opened up a double-digit lead early in the fourth and Jones made 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions for an 85-68 advantage.
Fowles’ double-double leads Lynx past Liberty 85-82

Delle Donne scores 30 as Mystics beat Liberty 95-78
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — When Elena Delle Donne gets going early, it makes the Washington Mystics' offense flow so much better.
The All-Star captain had 15 of her 30 points in the opening period to help Washington beat the New York Liberty 95-78 on Saturday.
"It definitely helps the spread the floor better when I'm hitting shots," said Delle Donne, who also had 10 rebounds.
She hit all six of her shots in the opening period, including three 3-pointers — most of them just swishing through the net.
ATLANTA (AP) — Renee Montgomery made a franchise-record seven 3-pointers and scored 24 points, helping the Atlanta Dream beat the New York Liberty 82-68 on Thursday night for their sixth straight victory.
Montgomery was 5 of 11 from 3-point range in the first half. The club mark was six 3-pointers in a game, done twice by Betty Lenox. Montgomery broke the record with 4:14 left in the third quarter and did not attempt another shot.
DALLAS (AP) — Elizabeth Cambage scored 53 points to set a WNBA record Tuesday, leading the Dallas Wings to a 104-87 victory over the New York Liberty.
The 6-foot-8 Australian reached 50 points on a three-point play with 2:19 remaining and broke Riquna Williams' WNBA record of 51 points, set Sept. 8, 2013, on an open 3-pointer from the top of the key.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Diana Taurasi scored 27 points, making her first seven 3-point attempts, and the Phoenix Mercury snapped a two-game skid with an 83-69 win over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night.
Phoenix (11-5) scored the last seven points of the third quarter to lead 67-48. New York (4-9) closed within 11 in the middle of the quarter before the Mercury pulled away for good.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Riquna Williams scored a season-high 25 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, to help the Los Angeles Sparks rout the New York Liberty 80-54 on Sunday.
The Sparks (10-3) scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 72-41, their largest of the game.
Los Angeles bounced back from a 101-72 loss to the Dallas Wings on Friday night and stayed atop the WNBA standings.
McBride, Wilson lead Aces to 88-78 win over Liberty
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Kayla McBride scored a season-high 27 points and rookie A'ja Wilson had her third consecutive double-double to help the Las Vegas Aces beat the New York Liberty 88-78 on Friday night.
Wilson finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks and McBride made 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Tina Charles helped the New York Liberty get a much-needed win.
The Liberty's star scored 29 points to help the team overcome a strong effort from Angel McCoughtry and beat the short-handed Atlanta Dream 79-72 on Tuesday night.
"It was a much-needed win being that we had just lost a couple of games," Charles said. "The defensive effort is what carried us throughout the game. Katie (Smith) put an emphasis on taking a step up on the defensive end."
Fowles, Lynx dominate in 85-71 win over Liberty
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Sylvia Fowles scored 25 points, hitting 10 of 13 shots, to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty 85-71 on Saturday night.
Maya Moore added 20 points and Cecilia Zandalasini scored 13 for the Lynx (4-6), who had lost five of six coming into the game.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Bill Laimbeer and the Las Vegas Aces didn't show any fatigue from playing back-to-back nights.
Dearica Hamby scored 17 points and Kayla McBride added 16 to lead a balanced offense in the Aces' 78-63 victory over the New York Liberty on Wednesday night.
"I thought we played very hard and had great energy on a back-to-back," Laimbeer said. "We're young and that's a big positive for us. Some of our bench players, Hamby played great, (Jaime) Nared was phenomenal defensively."
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Marissa Coleman hit a big shot in the final minute against her former team to help the New York Liberty get a much needed win.
Coleman's tiebreaking 3-pointer with 16.1 seconds left gave New York a 78-75 victory over the winless Indiana Fever on Sunday.
Stricklen’s four-point play at buzzer lifts Sun
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Shekinna Stricklen was all smiles after hitting her first career winning shot.
She had a four-point play at the buzzer to give the Connecticut Sun an 88-86 victory over the New York Liberty on Thursday night.
"I've never hit a game-winner, that was my first time," she said.
Stricklen didn't start for the first time this season as Sun coach Curt Miller decided to go with a bigger lineup. She didn't pout and was ready when her number was called at the end of the game.
The New York Liberty are courting potential new owners.
At least two different groups that are considering buying the WNBA team were at the Liberty's home opener in Westchester County last Friday.
"I happened to see Brandon (Steiner) and a couple other people who are interested," WNBA President Lisa Borders told The Associated Press in an interview Sunday. "The good news about that is we have good relations with all of them. Everyone is still apparently interested."
Quigley scores 22 to help Sky beat Liberty 80-76
CHICAGO (AP) — Allie Quigley scored 15 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter to help the Chicago Sky beat the New York Liberty 80-76 on Sunday night.
It was the Sky's first game at the new Wintrust Arena.
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Leslie Robinson joined an exclusive club when she was drafted by the New York Liberty last month.
The Princeton star is just the third player with Ivy League experience taken in the WNBA draft, joining former Harvard standouts Allison Feaster and Temi Fagbenle. While Robinson is a longshot to make the Liberty, she's happy to have the opportunity.
"It's been great to learn from everyone and has been a really good experience so far," she said.
After year away, Shoni Schimmel back with NY Liberty
NEW YORK (AP) — Shoni Schimmel is back with the New York Liberty in training camp and feeling refreshed after sitting out last season.
The former WNBA All-Star guard spent time with her family and used the time off to get herself right mentally.
"I needed a break, going from high school to college to the pros," Schimmel said at the first day of New York's training camp Sunday.
Her grandmother had been sick and recently passed away.

Laimbeer excited for chance to build Las Vegas franchise
NEW YORK (AP) — Bill Laimbeer found himself at a crossroad.
His contract with the New York Liberty was up and he wasn't sure if he wanted to stay or move on. He had spent the last few years grooming Katie Smith to be the team's next head coach and felt the time was right for her to take over the team, which lost in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
The 60-year-old Laimbeer could stay with New York as the team's general manager or find employment elsewhere.

NEW YORK (AP) — Katie Smith couldn't think of a better place to get her first chance to become a head coach than New York.
Smith will take over the Liberty, the team announced Monday. She's been an assistant with New York since retiring from the WNBA in 2013 and was promoted to associated head coach in 2016. She takes over for Bill Laimbeer, who served as the Liberty's coach from 2013-17.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday night because no deal has been announced.

Charles meets man whose life an AED she donated saved
NEW YORK (AP) — Dan Carlson had no idea who Tina Charles was until a few weeks ago. Now he'll never forget the New York Liberty's star center.
One of the hundreds of defibrillators that Charles has donated to organizations around the world over the past four years wound up saving Carlson's life when he had a heart attack in July.
On Friday, the 59-year-old Carlson got to thank Charles in person .

SEATTLE (AP) — Brittney Griner had 29 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, and Leilani Mitchell hit two late 3-pointers to help the Phoenix Mercury hold off the Seattle Storm 75-71 on Sunday night.

NEW YORK (AP) — With the game on the line, TIna Charles and the New York Liberty turned up their defensive pressure and pulled away from the Washington Mystics.
Charles and Epiphanny Prince each scored 20 points and the Liberty held the Mystics to just two points in the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter to beat Washington 74-66 on Friday night.

Delle Donne to return from thumb injury against Liberty
NEW YORK (AP) — Elena Delle Donne is back, although she's not at 100 percent yet.
Washington's star forward will return to the Mystics lineup Friday night when they visit the New York Liberty. She has been sidelined since the beginning of August with a torn ligament in her left thumb. The Mystics' leading scorer missed six games and Washington went 3-3.
Liberty ease by Fever 71-50 for 6th straight win
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Sugar Rodgers scored all 16 of her points in the first half and the New York Liberty beat the Indiana Fever 71-50 on Wednesday night for their sixth straight victory.
Rodgers only attempted one shot in the second half and played just 20 minutes.
Tina Charles added 13 points and nine rebounds for New York (18-12). Bria Hartley had 12 points, and Epiphanny Prince 11.
Liberty host Unity Game with Minnesota Lynx
NEW YORK (AP) — Tina Charles and her New York Liberty teammates have never shied away from speaking out against social injustices.
The Liberty players, along with many others across the WNBA, were vocal last summer in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
On Sunday, the Liberty hosted the first "Unity Game" in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx. The two teams and members of the NYPD and Covenant House locked arms during the playing of the national anthem.
