Holiday bread adds West Virginia twist to European tradition
HELVETIA, W.Va. (AP) — In the mountains of Randolph County, West Virginia, is the small Swiss-German town of Helvetia. This tiny, remote town is rich with Swiss-German tradition, including the Feast of Saint Nicholas held at the Helvetia Community Hall.
The La Porte Chapter of People-to-People International will have a program on “Christmas Around the World” at their next dinner meeting on Dec. 10.
It will begin with a potluck Christmas dinner at 12:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 908 Jefferson Ave. in La Porte. The public is invited to attend. Meat and beverages will be provided and members and guests are asked to bring some food to share.
