Orlando, Fla. — The Detroit Lions added more linebacking depth Monday morning, announcing the signing of Jonathan Freeny.
Freeny, 28, split last season between three rosters, finishing the year with the New Orleans Saints. The two previous years, he played for the New England Patriots, appearing in 18 games for the franchise, including 11 starts. During the stretch, he recorded 33 tackles and a sack.
The Detroit Lions have re-signed linebacker Nick Bellore.
The former Central Michigan standout played a unique and versatile role for the Lions last season, serving as a key special teams performer, a backup linebacker and working spot duty on offense as a fullback.
He'll be competing for a job in a revamped room, which is set to include free-agent additions Devon Kennard and Christian Jones, who both reportedly agreed to multi-year contracts with the Lions on Tuesday.

Tampa, Fla. — Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who entered the day questionable with a hand injury, will make his 109th consecutive start on Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Stafford practiced on a limited basis throughout the week after having his hand accidentally stepped on by Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs last Sunday.
Allen Park — The offensive huddle is still foreign territory for Nick Bellore, the Lions linebacker, special teams standout and part-time full back. But he knows the playbook well enough to realize when his number is being called.
On his eighth snap playing fullback this season, the Lions caught the Baltimore Ravens, and just about everyone else watching, by surprise, throwing him a 1-yard touchdown pass.
Allen Park — Glover Quin has got 'em all.
He's picked Peyton Manning. Got Drew Brees twice. Reigning MVP Matt Ryan? Yep, him too. Super Bowl winners Joe Flacco and Eli Manning? You bet. And even though it was the preseason, Quin has got the best of Tom Brady as well.
The last quarterback on Quin's checklist, the final top passer from the era he was drafted, was Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger. And after Sunday night, the list is complete.
Lions sign Bellore, waive Norton, add Ross to practice squad

The Lions also announced Monday they have waived offensive tackle Storm Norton.
Bellore started 10 games last season for San Francisco, and he had a sack and an interception. He played two seasons for the 49ers and the previous four for the New York Jets.

McCoy scores 3 TDs in Bills 45-16 win over 49ers
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Guard Richie Incognito knew LeSean McCoy's right knee was fine when the Bills running back was already gabbing in Buffalo's locker room during halftime.
"As long as Shady's talking, he's fine," Incognito said.
If knocking knees with 49ers linebacker Nick Bellore late in the first half couldn't slow down the player nicknamed, "Shady," what chance did the 49ers porous run defense have?
49ers’ Bowman out for season with Achilles injury
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The losses keep piling up for the San Francisco 49ers.
Star linebacker and defensive leader NaVorro Bowman was diagnosed with a torn left Achilles tendon on Monday, his second significant injury in less than three years.
Bowman suffered the non-contact injury in the third quarter Sunday against Dallas as San Francisco (1-3) lost its third straight game. He had to be helped off the field and was taken by cart to the locker room. An MRI on Monday confirmed the diagnosis.
