Special teams issues doom Bears against Patriots
CHICAGO (AP) — Nick Kwiatkoski and DeAndre Houston-Carson combined for a big play for the Chicago Bears on a kickoff in the first quarter against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Chicago's (not very) special teams got progressively worse from there.
The Bears managed very little resistance on Cordarrelle Patterson's 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and Kyle Van Noy scored off a blocked punt in the second half of the Patriots' 38-31 victory.
Bears place linebacker Willie Young on injured reserve
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bears have placed outside linebacker Willie Young on injured reserve because of a triceps injury.
Young was injured against Green Bay on Sept. 28. He has seven tackles and two sacks this season. Young has 26 sacks in four seasons with Chicago and 32 in eight years with the Bears and Detroit Lions.
Packers’ David Bakhtiari, Bryan Bulaga will miss Bears game
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Packers offensive tackles David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga will miss Green Bay's game Thursday night against the Chicago Bears.
The Packers will dig deep on the depth chart at the tackle positions with their top three backups already on injured reserve.
Chicago Bears lose safety Quintin Demps to broken arm
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears safety Quintin Demps suffered a broken arm in the 23-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and will be out an indefinite period of time.
Demps came out in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win and was replaced by former starter Adrian Amos. A 10-year veteran, Demps was acquired from Houston after the Bears struggled to defend against the pass and made a franchise record-low eight interceptions each of the last two seasons.
Hub Arkush: Pittsburgh Steelers present Chicago Bears with toughest test yet
CHICAGO – If the Chicago Bears team that faced the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener shows up to play Pittsburgh on Sunday, it can upset the Steelers.
If it’s the team we saw in Tampa last week, spend the day on your “honey do” list because the football could get ugly.
There is some good news for the Bears going in, as it appears guard Kyle Long, wide receiver Markus Wheaton and cornerback Prince Amukamara will all be making their season debuts.
Bears place linebacker Jerrell Freeman on injured reserve
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have placed inside linebacker Jerrell Freeman on injured reserve, another hit for a team coming off a three-win season.
A sixth-year pro, Freeman suffered a pectoral injury and concussion in a season-opening loss to Atlanta on Sunday.
Freeman led Chicago with 110 tackles — a team-high 86 solo — last season. He was with the Colts from 2012-2015.
Arkush: Reasons for optimism abound in new-look Chicago Bears secondary
BOURBONNAIS — There is more than a little buzz around the Chicago Bears defense this summer, and the possibility it might just take a significant step forward.
The front seven is re-stocked and locked with Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman and Jaye Howard up front and Leonard Floyd, Jerrell Freeman, Danny Trevathan, Willie Young, Lamarr Houston and Nick Kwiatkoski all hoping to make a difference at the second level.
If Pernell McPhee makes it back, so much the better.
Bears gain confidence from rare win with young lineup
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Even if the Chicago Bears' future at quarterback is murky, their vision of the future at numerous other spots looks more clear.
A nonfactor in the NFC North race, the Bears continue giving effort normally associated with teams in a playoff chase. Sunday's 26-6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers provided them with hope about their long-range future.
