USC’s Rakocevic still developing as force in the middle
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California's Nick Rakocevic is making a strong case to be regarded as one of the Pac-12's most improved players this season.
The junior center leads the conference with nine double-doubles and has three since the start of league play. He is averaging 15.8 points per game, which nearly doubles the 8.1 he averaged last season.
Rakocevic, USC dominate Arizona for 80-57 victory
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Rakocevic had not defeated Arizona in his three seasons at USC. He helped put that to rest on Thursday night.
The junior forward tied a career high with 27 points as the Trojans broke a five-game losing streak to the Wildcats with a dominating 80-57 victory. Rakocevic also had 12 rebounds as he recorded his ninth double-double of the season.
USC Edges Stanford for first 2-0 conference start in 10 year
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Rakocevic and Bennie Boatwright have become a formidable duo for USC men's basketball team.
Rakocevic scored 23 points and Bennie Boatwright added 22 to lead USC to a 77-66 win over Stanford on Sunday night. They combined for 45 points and 17 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, two steals and just two turnovers.
Boatwright, a senior, has battled many injuries but now that he's healthy they've formed quite a combination on the court.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — USC might be lacking in depth, but Nick Rakocevic and Bennie Boatwright can still pose plenty of matchup problems.
The frontcourt duo combined for 46 points as the undermanned Trojans opened Pac-12 Conference play with an 82-73 victory over California on Thursday night.
Rakocevic, a 6-foot-11 junior center, scored a career-high 27 points and was 12 of 14 from the field. Boatwright, a 6-10 senior forward, added 19 points.
USC snaps 4-game losing streak with win over Southern Utah
LOS ANGELES (AP) — USC has had a difficult December, but it can go into the Christmas break with a little bit of momentum after defeating Southern Utah 91-49 on Friday night to snap a four-game losing streak.
"The guys played very well after having a tough stretch," said Trojans coach Andy Enfield, who got his 100th win in six years at the school. "We took good shots for most of the night and shared the basketball."

Rakocevic leads USC past Long Beach State 75-65
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The shots weren't falling early for USC's Nick Rakocevic early Wednesday, leaving the junior one frustrated forward.
But when Long Beach State came charging back from a 14-point, second-half deficit to pull within two, Rakocevic found new life and led the Trojans to a 75-65 victory.
Rakocevic scored 13 of his 19 points in the game's final nine minutes and added a game-high 12 rebounds for the Trojans (5-2).

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jordan Usher scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds to help Southern California beat CSU Bakersfield 90-75 on Sunday night.
Bennie Boatwright added 19 points and eight rebounds and Shaqquan Aaron scored 18 for the Trojans (4-2). Jonah Mathews had 13 points and Nick Rakocevic chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bennie Boatwright is back in the lineup and that makes Southern California whole again.
The senior who missed the first two games had 16 points in the Trojans' 95-59 rout of Stetson on Wednesday night. Boatwright shot 5 of 7 from the floor and made four 3-pointers in 18 minutes. He had last season cut short by a knee injury that required surgery and he toyed with leaving early for the NBA draft.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Justin Johnson scored 23 points and Western Kentucky won consecutive NIT games for the first time since 1948 with a 79-75 victory over USC on Monday night.
Johnson spun in the paint and hit his patented hook shot with 1:03 remaining to give WKU a 76-73 lead and after Nick Rakocevic answered with a layup, Johnson went 1 of 2 at the free-throw line at 33.1.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jordan McLaughlin had 26 points and 13 assists, Nick Rakocevic added 24 points with 19 rebounds and short-handed USC needed two overtimes to beat UNC Asheville 103-98 on Tuesday night in the NIT's first round.
McLaughlin was fouled on a drive with 25.1 seconds left in regulation and made two free throws to tie it at 70 after the Trojans had made just five of their first 16. UNC Asheville dribbled down the clock, but Ahmad Thomas' contested jumper was short.
Alkins, Ayton lead No. 13 Arizona past Trojans, 87-67
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Wildcats picked an excellent time for what coach Sean Miller called "one of our best overall performances."
Rawle Alkins scored 20 points, Deandre Ayton added 18 and No. 13 Arizona rebounded from its first home loss of the season to beat Southern California 81-67 on Saturday night and expand what had been a precarious lead in the Pac-12 standings.
Dusan Ristic added 16 points, and Allonzo Trier had 14 for the Wildcats (20-6, 10-3).
Holder’s late basket gives Arizona St 80-78 win over USC
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Tra Holder wanted the last shot of the game, and after his team had struggled with shooting and free throws all night, he felt confident his fadeaway bank shot was going in.
It did, with less than two seconds to play, and Arizona State scored the last nine points of Thursday night's game to stun USC 80-78.
The Trojans had the final possession but couldn't get off a shot from near half-court.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jonah Mathews turned his back as Daejon Davis tossed up the potential tying 3-pointer with 4 seconds left.
Mathews' teammate, Nick Rakocevic, watched nervously, thinking the shot looked good from his vantage point.
It wasn't, and Southern California escaped with a 69-64 victory over Stanford on Wednesday night to move into a virtual tie with Arizona atop the Pac-12, although the Trojans (7-2) trail the idle Wildcats (6-1) by percentage points.

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Nick Rakocevic started the best game of his career with an and-1 bucket down low. The Southern California sophomore followed that with back-to-back layups then felt good enough to wander outside the key for a 16-foot jumper.
On a night when the Trojans were without their leading scorer for the first half, Rakocevic's quick start got USC going early in a game they were never challenged.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chimezie Metu is known for his rim-rattling dunks. He showed some variety on his way to a career-high 31 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
"I've been working on it all summer," he said of his long-range shooting. "I'm still a dunker at heart."
Metu also went 6 of 8 from the free throw line in leading Southern California to a 98-87 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Sunday night, snapping the Gauchos' seven-game winning streak.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Rakocevic took advantage of his first start of the season, helping USC dominate as part of a new-look trio of big men in the starting lineup.
Rakocevic, Bennie Boatwright and Chimezie Metu all had double-doubles to lead USC to an 82-59 win over Santa Clara on Thursday night. They combined for 57 points and 31 rebounds
They got to the rim with ease and Santa Clara never had an answer.
"It's hard to guard three 7-footers," Rakocevic said.
Stewart scores 26, USC beats Pepperdine 93-67
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Elijah Stewart scored 26 points with seven 3-pointers and four blocks, USC set a school single-game record with 14 blocks, and the Trojans cruised to a 93-67 win over Pepperdine on Sunday night to improve to 9-0.
It's the Trojans' best start since they went 16-0 in 1971.
