Column: Where, oh where, should the Raiders play?
The Raiders thought they finally found a place to play next season, only to find out they're not wanted in San Francisco.
Not by the mayor, and certainly not by the team that still calls itself the San Francisco 49ers — even while it plays its games in a stadium 40 miles away in the Silicon Valley. They've pretty much shut down any plans to play at Oracle Park, home of the baseball Giants.
"As far as I'm concerned, the Oakland Raiders should play in Oakland," San Francisco Mayor London Breed said.
AP Source: Raiders in talks with Giants over sharing stadium
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Oakland Raiders are in talks with the Giants about playing their home games next season at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
A person with knowledge of the negotiations said Sunday night the two sides are in discussions, but no deal has been reached. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because nothing has been finalized.
NBC Bay Area reported that an announcement of the Raiders' plans to play in San Francisco will be made this week.

Former NFL player McFadden arrested in Texas on DWI charge
DALLAS (AP) — Authorities say former NFL player Darren McFadden has posted bond after he was arrested on a drunken-driving charge when he fell asleep in the drive-thru lane at a fast-food restaurant in suburban Dallas.
Collin County court records show the 31-year-old was charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest after being found early Monday at a Whataburger in McKinney. McFadden was taken to the county jail.
Chiefs suddenly stingy defense gets test in AFC title game
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The only defense the Kansas City Chiefs played most of this season was, well, in defense of their own defense, which gave up so many yards and points that it became a running joke around the league.
Yes, the Chiefs scored in bushels. They also allowed points in bunches.
Saints-Rams NFC title game a clash of like-minded coaches
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — One way or another, the NFC Championship between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints will be won by a coach named Sean — with an Irish surname — who designs and calls plays for one of the most innovative and productive offenses in the NFL.
The ties between the Saints' Sean Payton and the Rams' Sean McVay go well beyond a shared name.
Raiders break ground on new headquarters near Las Vegas
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have broken ground on their future corporate headquarters and practice facility near Las Vegas.
The team held a ceremony Monday to mark the start of construction of their complex in Henderson.
The Raiders have promised the venue will create an estimated 250 full-time jobs not counting players. The team will spend about $75 million to build the facilities.
Chiefs’ struggling defense gets Colts’ potent offense next
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs' defense had been hearing all season about how bad they were, and how they were the biggest threat to an offensive juggernaut falling short of reaching the Super Bowl.
Then they shut down the Oakland Raiders in Week 17.
Raiders sign QB Nathan Peterman to reserve future contract

Raiders hire draft analyst Mike Mayock as general manager
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Mike Mayock has spent more than a decade as an analyst at NFL Network, studying all the teams and their rosters trying to find the best fits for each player in the draft.
Now Mayock gets the chance to use that knowledge he gained to try to rebuild the Oakland Raiders after he was hired Monday to be the team's new general manager alongside coach Jon Gruden.
Mayock replaced the recently fired Reggie McKenzie and now gets his first chance in an NFL front office at age 60.
Chiefs aim for AFC West title, No. 1 seed against Raiders
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs could have taken this week off, assured of not only their third consecutive AFC West title but also the No. 1 seed in the playoffs before the Oakland Raiders came to town.
Instead, they'll have everything on the line Sunday.
Rivers, Chargers understand outside help moot without a win
COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — Philip Rivers is an Oakland Raiders fan this week, sort of.
Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers can win the AFC West and secure home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs by beating Denver and having the Raiders defeat Kansas City on Sunday.
The Chargers can also take the division title, a first-round bye and home field with a tie against the Broncos and a Chiefs loss.
Broncos assured of 1st consecutive losing years since 71-72
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — While the Oakland Raiders celebrated with their fans following the possible final game at the Coliseum, the Denver Broncos trudged off the field with a lowly distinction.
For the first time in 46 years, the Broncos are losers in back-to-back seasons.
Now the big question following a 27-14 loss to the Raiders on Monday night that provided Denver's ninth defeat of the season is whether the two down years will cost coach Vance Joseph his job.
Raiders starting cornerbacks miss game vs. Broncos
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders will be without their two starting cornerbacks against the Denver Broncos.
Gareon Conley has been ruled out of Monday night's game with a concussion and Daryl Worley was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Oakland also waived Damontre Moore.
The Raiders signed safety Dallin Leavitt and tight end Paul Butler from the practice squad, although Butler is inactive for the game.

Peterman gets 2nd chance on Raiders practice squad
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Nathan Peterman became a national punchline as the quarterback in Buffalo because of his poor performance filled with interceptions and other numerous bad plays.
So when the Oakland Raiders signed Peterman to the practice squad this week, coach Jon Gruden got quite a few calls asking about it and he saw criticism of the move that he tried to deflect Thursday.
Raiders sign quarterback Nathan Peterman to practice squad
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have signed quarterback Nathan Peterman to the practice squad.

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders go into the final stretch of the season not knowing if they will have their starting offensive line available for the remaining two games.

Eliminated Bengals have 2 games before coaching decision
CINCINNATI (AP) — A win over equally downtrodden Oakland ended the Bengals' five-game losing streak, but it couldn't prevent them from being eliminated from the postseason for a third straight year.
Their final two weeks will amount to playing it out before addressing the franchise's overriding question.
Bengals end 5-game losing streak, beat Raiders 30-16
CINCINNATI (AP) — An entire month had come and gone without even one win, leaving the Bengals in their deepest drought since 2010.
Joe Mixon provided just enough to give the sparse crowd a reason to cheer at the end of their final home game.
Column: Washington’s NFL team does its best to Be Worst
You've gotta hand it to Washington's alleged NFL team.
There's the offensive nickname. Not to mention claiming a player off waivers not long after he allegedly beat up a woman — again. And let's not forget the organization's unwillingness to pursue a legitimate quarterback — yes, there's at least one out there — with the playoffs on the line. Oh, and while we're at it, quietly trying to push through a plan for a new stadium that would undoubtedly serve as another raid on the public coffers.
Raiders WR Martavis Bryant suspended for substance abuse
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Oakland Raiders receiver Martavis Bryant has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL policy on substance abuse.
The NFL announced Friday that Bryant has violated the terms of his conditional reinstatement in April 2017 and has been placed back on the suspended list for an indefinite period of time.

Carr playing at high level despite heavy turnover on Raiders
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Derek Carr has seen two coaches get fired, fellow stars get traded and the roster get overhauled numerous times in five seasons as Oakland Raiders quarterback.
The latest change for Carr came this week when the Raiders fired general manager Reggie McKenzie, the man who drafted him in 2014 and negotiated the $125 million contract that made Carr the face of the franchise.
Raiders fire GM Reggie McKenzie
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — From the moment Jon Gruden was brought back for a second stint as coach of the Oakland Raiders with a 10-year contract, general manager Reggie McKenzie's longevity in the position was in serious doubt.
That only eroded more with each departure of one of McKenzie's prized former draft picks and ended when he was fired Monday, less than two years after he was named the NFL's executive of the year.
Cardinals back in thick of race for No. 1 draft pick
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals have double-digit losses for the first time since 2012.
Just when the Cardinals looked as if they truly had improved — with a win at Green Bay — they fell flat in a 17-3 home loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Boswell’s missed FG sends Steelers to 24-21 loss to Raiders
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A Pittsburgh Steelers team that kept finding ways to win during a six-game winning streak now has fallen short at the end for a third straight game.
A slick field that led to kicker Chris Boswell losing his footing on a potential game-tying kick is to blame this time.
Raiders sign C.J. Anderson for remainder of season
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Running back C.J. Anderson has signed with the Oakland Raiders and could be in their backfield for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Raiders coach Jon Gruden said that the move is insurance in case Doug Martin isn't available. The Raiders primary running back since Marshawn Lynch went on injured reserve with a groin injury in mid-October, Martin is nursing a sore knee and his status is uncertain.
Raiders sign DE Damontre Moore
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent defensive end Damontre Moore and waived defensive end Fadol Brown.
The team made the move Tuesday, two days after Brown jumped offside to extend a fourth-quarter touchdown drive that sealed a victory for Kansas City.
Moore enters his second stint with the Raiders. He spent part of the 2016 training camp with the team.
