Goldschmidt homers, Diamondbacks beat Angels 5-1
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have been baseball's best first-inning team and they added to those numbers with Paul Goldschmidt's two-run homer Wednesday night.
The way Clay Buchholz has been pitching, it was more than enough.
Goldschmidt homered to set the all-time mark at Chase Field, Buchholz pitched seven scoreless innings and the Diamondbacks earned a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
Rougned Odor drives in 3 for Rangers in 6-4 win over Angels
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Rougned Odor and the Texas Rangers quickly got after yet another new Angels pitcher.
Odor's two-run single capped a five-run outburst in the second inning off recently acquired Odrisamer Despaigne, the 14th starting pitcher used by Los Angeles this season, and the Rangers went on to a 6-4 win on Friday night.
MILWAUKEE — Lorenzo Cain sparked a 13-hit attack from atop the order.
Cain homered, doubled twice and scored four times, and pinch hitter Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer that gave him 1,000 RBIs and powered the Milwaukee Brewers to a 12-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday night.
Lewis Brinson, acquired from Milwaukee in the offseason trade for Christian Yelich, celebrated his return to Miller Park with his first two homers of the season for Miami.
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Miami Marlins right-hander Dan Straily has mild right forearm inflammation and will not throw for five or six days, raising the possibility his first start of the season will be delayed.
Straily, who tied for the NL lead with 33 starts last year, had been scheduled to pitch in the Marlins' second game March 30 against the Chicago Cubs. He complained of arm stiffness and had an MRI that revealed the inflammation.
Rojas’ sacrifice fly helps Marlins beat Padres 2-1 in 11
MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Marlins keep winning, even with patchwork pitching.
Miguel Rojas hit a one-out sacrifice fly in the 11th inning, and five pitchers combined to help Miami win for the 12th time in 15 games by beating the San Diego Padres 2-1 Saturday night.
NEW YORK (AP) — Asdrubal Cabrera tried for a diving stop in the shortstop hole, landed on his left thumb and rolled onto his back, grimacing.
Given their crowded disabled list, the New York Mets are bracing for the worst.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Miami Marlins have scratched Wei-Yin Chen from his scheduled start Saturday and placed the left-hander on the 10-day disabled list with a fatigued pitching arm.
The move was retroactive to Tuesday. Right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans and could start in Chen's place Saturday night against the New York Mets.
Max Kepler, it appears, will have plenty of Julys in his major league career. It just might be difficult for him to top his first one.
Kepler stroked his eighth home run of the month, and 11th of the season, to tie the score in the sixth inning Thursday, then put himself in the middle of the game-winning, four-run rally an inning later, helping the Twins finally beat the Baltimore Orioles with a 6-2 victory at Target Field.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Making a one-game stop in Minnesota before an important weekend series, the Baltimore Orioles weren't in a position to overlook a single game.
An overlooked pitcher almost gave Baltimore a big win before the Orioles headed to Toronto.
Ubaldo Jimenez pitched five effective innings in his first start in 20 days, but Odrisamer Despaigne (0-2) and the usually-reliable bullpen faltered in Baltimore's 6-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday...
