James Karen, ‘Mr. Teague’ of ‘Poltergeist,’ is dead at 94
NEW YORK (AP) — James Karen, a prolific and beloved character actor whose hundreds of credits included memorable appearances in "Poltergeist" and "The Return of the Living Dead," has died. He was 94.
Karen's friend Bruce Goldstein told The Associated Press that he died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles. He had been battling respiratory ailments.

Doors biographer Jerry Hopkins dead at 82
NEW YORK (AP) — Jerry Hopkins, a prolific music journalist who co-wrote a million-selling biography of the Doors that Oliver Stone adapted into a feature film, has died.
Hopkins died of heart failure June 3 in Bangkok, his longtime residence. He was 82 and his death was confirmed Tuesday by his son, Nick Hopkins.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — American movie director Oliver Stone was Iran on Monday attending an international film festival.
Stone hosted a workshop for filmmakers during the Fajr Film Festival and planned to hold a news conference on Wednesday, Iranian media reported. French actor Jean-Pierre Léaud and Italian producer Giovanni Spagnoletti are also attending the festival.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency said Stone briefly visited the historical city of Isfahan the previous day.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin says that early on in his tenure he floated the idea of Russia joining NATO.
In a series of interviews with American film director Oliver Stone, Putin said he inquired about Russia joining the alliance when then-U.S. President Bill Clinton visited Moscow in 2000.
"During the meeting I said: 'Let's consider an option that Russia might join NATO,'" Putin recalled. "Clinton said 'Why not?' But the U.S. delegation got very nervous."

NEW YORK (AP) — Film director Oliver Stone, whose series of conversations with Vladimir Putin air next week on Showtime, said he watched Megyn Kelly interview the Russian president on NBC and concluded that "he knew his stuff and she didn't."
Kelly's interview, which aired on the debut of her newsmagazine, "Sunday Night with Megan Kelly," on Sunday, "became machine-gun like," Stone said, and was an example of how American journalism frequently leaves little room for nuance.
NEW YORK (AP) — Megyn Kelly has landed an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the premiere of her NBC newsmagazine Sunday.
She announced the big "get" on Thursday's "Today" show. She's already in Russia to moderate a discussion featuring Putin at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, and the interview will take place afterward. They've been working to land the interview since Kelly agreed to serve on the panel.
Oliver Stone to direct Guantanamo Bay TV series
CANNES, France (AP) — Oliver Stone has agreed to direct his first scripted project for television, a TV series about the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
Weinstein Television announced Monday at the Cannes Film Festival that it has acquired "Guantanamo," a series that plans to peer into "the darkest corners" of the detention center established to house suspected Islamic militants.
Stone plans to direct the entire first season of the show, which was created by Daniel Voll.
NEW YORK (AP) — Showtime is presenting four hours of director Oliver Stone interviewing Russian president Vladimir Putin on four consecutive nights in June.
The network announced Monday that "The Putin Interviews" will air first on June 12 at 9 p.m. Eastern, with three additional hour-long installments on the following nights. Showtime said Stone interviewed Putin more than a dozen times over the past two years, most recently in February.
