McCann finalizes $2.5 million, 1-year deal with White Sox
CHICAGO (AP) — Catcher James McCann and the Chicago White Sox have finalized a $2.5 million, one-year contract.
Chicago announced the move Wednesday, filling an opening created when it traded Omar Narvaez to Seattle on Nov. 30 for reliever Alex Colome. The White Sox also lost Kevan Smith when he was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Angels in October.
McCann hit .220 with eight homers and 39 RBIs in 118 games last season with Detroit.

CHICAGO (AP) — Reliever Alex Colome was acquired by the Chicago White Sox from the payroll-shedding Seattle Mariners on Friday for catcher Omar Narvaez.
The White Sox also declined to offer contracts to outfielder Avisail Garcia and Matt Davidson, allowing the pair to become free agents. And they agreed to a $1.55 million, one-year deal with outfielder Leury Garcia.

On a soggy Friday night, the pitcher nicknamed "Big Game James" turned in a solid start for the White Sox and was rewarded with some run support.

Omar Narvaez homered and drove in the go-ahead run with a single, Chicago relievers tossed seven scoreless innings and the White Sox rallied from a six-run deficit for a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

CHICAGO (AP) — In a matchup of teams on track to both lose 100 or more games, the White Sox avoided getting swept in a three-game series.
Jose Abreu hit a tying home run off Jason Adam in the eighth and pinch-hitter Daniel Palka had a three-run homer off Jason Hammel later in the inning, leading Chicago over the Kansas City Royals 6-4 Thursday.
CHICAGO (AP) — What began as a breeze for Blake Snell and the Tampa Bay Rays turned into a nail-biter.
Snell pitched one-hit ball and struck out 10 through six innings and Tampa Bay held on to keep the White Sox winless at home this season, beating Chicago 6-5 on Tuesday.
The White Sox dropped to 0-5 at Guaranteed Rate Field. That matched Chicago's five-game home skid to start 1975 at Comiskey Park.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox could have quite a Triple-A battery next season: Giovanni Soto pitching to Geovany Soto.
Geovany Soto, the NL Rookie of the Year with the Chicago Cubs in 2008, has reached a minor league deal with the White Sox, according to several media reports Friday. The catcher could have a shot at the big league roster, with the team lacking experience behind the plate.
Indians fall to White Sox 2-1, magic number down to 11
CHICAGO (AP) — The Cleveland Indians dropped three of four in Chicago — and still gained a bit Thursday.
Jose Abreu continued his second-half surge with a home run and single and Carlos Sanchez drove in the winning run in the ninth inning in the White Sox's 2-1 victory.
