The letter said "multiple" children at the Foyer Notre Dame de la Nativite orphanage on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince tested positive for the sexually transmitted infection chlamydia and reported that they had been victims of abuse.

A North Charleston charity that gives clothing to children who are abandoned, abused or neglected will hold a gala fundraiser Sept. 16 at the Charleston Marriott.
Lowcountry Orphan Relief provides two weeks of clothing and school supplies to each child it serves. Volunteers collect donations to help children from area shelters, foster care and those removed from their parents' custody.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — A South African rhino orphanage that closed after being attacked by poachers will be turned into a wildlife rehabilitation center.
Christiaan DuBuson, the anti-poaching head at Thula Thula wildlife reserve in KwaZulu-Natal province, said Wednesday that the old rhino facility will be used to care for antelope, birds and other wildlife in need. DuBuson says the rehabilitation center will open late this month.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — As millions of South African students return to school after the holidays, 10-year-old Tumi Tlebjane is making the journey for the first time. On Wednesday, he started studies at a Johannesburg school for students with special learning needs. His grandmother, 64-year-old Helen Tlebjane, helped him prepare at Nkosi's Haven, a shelter that cares for people affected by HIV and AIDS. South Africa leads the world in HIV infections and is estimated to have well over one million AIDS orphans. Helen became Tumi's guardian after his mother died when he was 5. The boy has lung and heart ailments and is half the size of most children his age. He set off in the smallest uniform available for school, where he will learn life skills, music, drama and more.
A mother of four from Meggett is a local advocate for orphans in China

This 38-year-old Meggett woman, a married mother of four, has been to China five times since her first visit in 2012.
And she wants to go back again in 2017 so she is eager to share her story.
