UW regents OK graduate tuition increases at 8 schools
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — University of Wisconsin System regents Friday approved raising graduate tuition at eight schools and out-of-state undergraduate tuition at six schools.
Resident graduate tuition will increase at Eau Claire, Green Bay, La Crosse, Oshkosh, Parkside, Stevens Point, Stout and Whitewater. Green Bay will see the biggest increase, from $7,793 to $7,996. The smallest increase will come at La Crosse, which requested an $84 increase to $8,651.
UW System schools to raise graduate tuition
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — University of Wisconsin regents are poised to raise graduate tuition at eight schools.
Plans call for raising resident graduate tuition at Eau Claire, Green Bay, La Crosse, Oshkosh, Parkside, Stevens Point, Stout and Whitewater. Green Bay would see the biggest increase, from $7,793 to $7,996.
Nonresident graduation tuition would go up at Eau Claire, Green Bay, Oshkosh, Parkside, Stevens Point, Stout and Whitewater. Green Bay would see the largest jump, from $17,106 to $17,551.

Oshkosh: Fiscal 1Q Earnings Snapshot
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) _ Oshkosh Corp. (OSK) on Wednesday reported fiscal first-quarter net income of $109 million.
The Oshkosh, Wisconsin-based company said it had net income of $1.51 per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax expenses, were $1.61 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 94 cents per share.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and its private foundation have reached a multimillion-dollar settlement as part of the foundation's ongoing bankruptcy case.
Man sentenced to nearly 5 years in prison in skimming case
OSKHOSH, Wis. (AP) — Federal authorities say an 18-year-old man who was apprehended in Wisconsin has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for a wide-ranging skimming scheme involving the use of counterfeit debit cards.
Justice Department officials say Ionel Muresanu was arrested in Oshkosh in May by police detectives who received a tip from law enforcement in Tennessee. He had 80 counterfeit cards in his possession.
Ex-Oshkosh YMCA worker charged with child sex assault
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A former daycare worker at the Oshkosh YMCA is charged with sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl.
Seventy-five-year-old B.T. Adams was charged Thursday with two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child under 13, and one count of conspiracy to sexually assault a child. All of the counts involve the same child.
Oshkosh police say death of 10-month-old boy is suspicious
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Police in Oshkosh are investigating what they say is the suspicious death of a 10-month-old child.
The baby boy was taken to an Oshkosh hospital Sunday night after a medical call to a home and then flown to a children's hospital in Milwaukee, where he was pronounced dead Wednesday.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Jury acquits Fox Crossing judge accused of stalking clerk
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A jury has acquitted a Fox Crossing municipal judge accused of stalking his court clerk.
Jurors on Monday found suspended judge Leonard Kachinsky not guilty of felony stalking.
Kachinsky's clerk, village leaders and prosecutors argued that the 65-year-old judge harassed her and retaliated against her when she tried to take their relationship from a friendship to one that was solely professional.
YMCA day care worker arrested on suspicion of sex assault
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Oshkosh police have arrested a 75-year-old YMCA employee on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault of a child and false imprisonment.
WBAY-TV reports the man was taken into custody Thursday night. He was fired by the YMCA.
Oshkosh father charged in infant’s death
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — An Oshkosh father is accused of shaking his newborn son and causing the child's death.
Cory Lyons is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the Nov. 29 death of his 7-week-old son. A criminal complaint says Lyons admitted he was highly frustrated by the baby's crying and shook the child five or six times.
The complaint says a CT scan at the hospital revealed the child suffered a brain injury which subsequently led to the infant's death.
Oshkosh police investigate death of 3-year-old girl
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Police in Oshkosh say they're investigating the death of a toddler.
Officers were dispatched to a medical call in a residential neighborhood about 7:30 a.m. Friday. First responders found a 3-year-old girl had died.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Oshkosh police say the father of an infant has been arrested in the baby's death.
Authorities say officers were called about 7 p.m. Thursday about an incident involving the two-month-old boy. The baby was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The child's 27-year-old father was taken into custody on a possible charge of first-degree reckless homicide. An autopsy is being done Friday by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) _ Oshkosh Corp. (OSK) on Thursday reported fiscal fourth-quarter profit of $151.3 million.
The Oshkosh, Wisconsin-based company said it had profit of $2.05 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were $1.78 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.45 per share.

Man found dead in Oshkosh died from beating
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Police say a man found dead in his Oshkosh home last week had been beaten five days before he died.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office determined 47-year-old Steven Mallas died as a result of complications from that beating on a sidewalk in Oshkosh on Oct. 7.
Police said Thursday a 34-year-old Kaukauna man has been arrested for aggravated battery. The investigation continues.
Father charged in crash that killed daughter, injured son
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A Milwaukee man is charged in Winnebago County with driving drunk and causing a crash that killed his 10-year-old daughter and injured his son.
A criminal complaint says Steven Brownell's blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit to drive when he crashed his Mustang at a high rate of speed along Highway 45 Aug. 10.
Municipal judge pleads not guilty in stalking case
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A Fox Crossing municipal judge has pleaded not guilty to charges that he harassed his court clerk.
Suspended judge Leonard Kachinsky entered his plea Thursday to a felony charge of stalking and misdemeanor charges of violating a harassment restraining order. He was bound over for trial after waiving his preliminary hearing.
Drunken driver sentenced for crashing into sheriff’s SUV
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A Neenah man accused of crashing into a Winnebago County sheriff's vehicle while driving drunk has been sentenced to nine months in jail and fined $600.
WLUK-TV reports that 60-year-old Harold Strozewski on Wednesday pleaded no contest to one count of drunken driving causing injury, and other charges were dismissed.
Fleeing defendant who crashed plane facing more charges
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A man who fled from deputies in his airplane before crashing into a Waupaca County cornfield is facing additional charges.
Winnebago County sheriff's deputies and Oshkosh police went to Wittman Regional Airport on Sept. 1 to arrest 47-year-old Andrei Biesinger for violating a restraining order and other charges. Deputies had been checking locations Biesinger was known to frequent, including the hangar where he kept his plane.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say they were trying to arrest a Wisconsin man on a domestic abuse-related charge when he fled in an airplane before crashing into a cornfield.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office says officers went to Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh on Friday night to try to arrest the 47-year-old for violating a restraining order and other charges. For 18 days, investigators had checked locations he was known to frequent, including the hangar where he kept his plane.
