After being two points from victory, Carreno Busta lost five straight, including that one in the last tiebreaker where he berated the chair umpire for not ruling a replay, allowing Nishikori to advance 6-7 (8), 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (8).
Davis Cup: Paire and Pouille give France 2-0 lead vs Spain
LILLE, France (AP) — Benoit Paire overcame nerves to win on his Davis Cup debut and Lucas Pouille won a five-set battle as the pair gave defending champion France a 2-0 lead over Spain in the semifinals on Friday.
Paire beat Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-1, 6-0 on the indoor hard court at Stade Pierre Mauroy before France's No. 1 player Pouille defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Paire to open for France against Spain in Davis Cup
LILLE, France (AP) — Benoit Paire will debut for France in the Davis Cup semifinals on Friday, two years after being sent home from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Paire was picked instead of Richard Gasquet, and will play the opening singles for the defending champions against Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain on an indoor hard court in the northern city of Lille.
Lucas Pouille, who won the decisive fifth match in the 2017 final, will then play Roberto Bautista Agut.
Paire in France team for Davis Cup semifinals against Spain
PARIS (AP) — Benoit Paire received his first Davis Cup call-up on Tuesday and will be part of the France team that takes on Spain in the semifinals.

PARIS (AP) — Hyeon Chung of South Korea swept aside Mischa Zverev 6-0, 6-2 at the Paris Masters on Monday to set up a second-round match against Rafael Nadal.
Nadal will begin his quest for a record 31st Masters title — but first in Paris — on Wednesday. The top-ranked Spaniard beat Chung in their only previous encounter on his way to a 10th title at the Barcelona Open in April.

METZ, France (AP) — Sixth-seeded Richard Gasquet lost 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to Denis Istomin in the first round of the Moselle Open on Tuesday, while top-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta withdrew from the tournament with an injury to his left hand.
Organizers said the 10th-ranked Spaniard, who made it to the semifinals at the U.S. Open and was due to play his opening match in Metz on Thursday, had been replaced in the draw by Frenchman Kenny De Schepper.
