Vikings acquire center Brett Jones in trade with Giants
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings, who are running out of time before the regular season begins for rehabilitating center Pat Elflein to return, took a step toward protecting themselves by acquiring center Brett Jones in a trade with the New York Giants for a draft pick.
The deal, which is contingent on Jones passing a physical exam, was announced on Sunday. The Vikings didn't disclose the selection, but NFL Media reported it's a seventh-round choice in 2019.
Vikings Nick Easton’s neck injury likely ends season
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings lost a key member of their offensive line Thursday when left guard Nick Easton was placed on injured reserve because of a bulging disc in his neck.
Coach Mike Zimmer made the announcement at a news conference. Easton hadn't practiced since Aug. 3 because of the injury. He started 12 games in 2017 and five games the year before, playing both center and guard.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — As the Minnesota Vikings conducted their first full-team practice of training camp, the offensive linemen, once again, found themselves in the spotlight.
Vikings center Pat Elflein starts camp on PUP list
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings center Pat Elflein has been placed on the physically unable to perform list prior to the start of training camp, still rounding into form after offseason surgery on his left ankle.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings enter the second day of the NFL draft with the 62nd and 94th overall picks and a pressing need on the offensive line.
With their second and third round selections Friday, the Vikings will look hard at filling a spot up front to help protect new quarterback Kirk Cousins. Only six offensive linemen were taken in the first round Thursday, when the Vikings picked Central Florida cornerback Mike Hughes.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings put the two picks they had in the first 108 selections in the 2017 draft to productive use.
They moved up in both the second and third rounds for running back Dalvin Cook and center Pat Elflein to obtain a pair of players expected to be long-term cogs in their offense.
They'll be bargain-hunters again this time, with the 30th pick in the first round and thereafter.
Just like last year, the offensive line will be the point of emphasis.
Vikings potentially turning to NFL draft to help answer lingering offensive line questions
INDIANAPOLIS Just because the Vikings offensive line exhibited a welcomed resurgence last season doesnt mean General Manager Rick Spielman has turned his attention elseswhere. The unit now faces a few questions, so offensive line coach Tony Sparano and the Vikings personnel department have been busy poking and prodding prospective linemen this week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
NFL draft: Ohio State C Billy Price appears to suffer injury on bench press
INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio State's highly touted center, Billy Price, appeared to suffer an injury while performing on the bench press on Thursday at the NFL scouting combine.
Price stepped up for his lifting session and only performed three reps on the bench before appearing to grab his left pectoral and re-racking the weight.
A source told PFW that Price doesn't believe the injury is serious and he's visiting a doctor today to have a scan done to see if there is a tear.
Vikings center Pat Elflein needs surgery on injured ankle
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings center Pat Elflein has a left ankle injury that will require offseason surgery.
Coach Mike Zimmer confirmed Tuesday that Elflein will need a procedure done on the ankle he injured in the team's loss at Philadelphia in the NFC championship game. Elflein was wearing a walking boot after the game. The rookie from Ohio State, drafted in the third round, produced a solid debut to help the Vikings make significant improvements on the offensive line in 2017.
Vikings center Pat Elflein, who left the teams locker room on crutches and with his left foot in a walking boot after the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, will need offseason surgery, coach Mike Zimmer said on Tuesday.
The winner of Sundays NFC divisional playoff game between the Vikings and Saints will be the favorite to win the NFC championship next weekend for the right to return to U.S. Bank Stadium for the Super Bowl.
And if you want to know why it was so important that the Vikings locked in the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye, coach Mike Zimmer explained what that week off gave his squad.
Vikings get center Pat Elflein back for NFC divisional game vs. Saints, but offfensive line still making adjustments
The Vikings offensive line could shuffle once again for Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game against the Saints at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Center Pat Elflein, who missed two of the last four games due to a left shoulder injury, is expected to be ready for Sunday. The Vikings had a light practice Monday upon returning from a few days away.
“I’m ready,” Elflein said. “I’m practicing. I’m rolling.”
Mike Remmers’ move on Sunday was just the latest along a Vikings offensive line proving, yes, the big guys can be flexible, too.
Until the Vikings’ 23-10 win against the Bears on Sunday, Remmers had not played guard in a football game since before he became an NFL starter. Remmers shifted inside from his usual spot as the Vikings right tackle to play right guard, vacated by Joe Berger moving to center for the injured Pat Elflein.
Vikings center Pat Elflein ruled out with shoulder injury
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer says rookie center Pat Elflein will miss Sunday's game against Chicago because of a shoulder injury, his second missed start of the season.
Zimmer made the announcement Friday during a press conference. Veteran Joe Berger will move from right guard to take Elflein's place, making his first start of the season at center. Berger started all 16 games there for the Vikings during the 2015 season.
With tight end Kyle Rudolph and left tackle Riley Reiff nursing ankle injuries, the Minnesota Vikings likely will be down two offensive starters Sunday against Cincinnati.
Rudolph and Reiff both were hurt last weekend at Carolina and listed Friday as doubtful for the game at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Vikings also listed cornerback Mackensie Alexander (ribs) as out and linebacker Emmanuel Lamur (foot) as questionable.

From Pat Elflein to Ben Gedeon and Dalvin Cook, Vikings’ rookies stepped into big roles this season
As Mike Zimmer surveyed his rookie class on Thursday, running through the list of his first-year players at a reporters request, the Vikings coach could tick off players who were already key contributors, important role players or promising prospects.
[Pat] Elfleins pretty good. [Dalvin] Cook is good, Zimmer said. [Ben] Gedeons done good. Weve got a lot of them, right? I think [Stacy] Coleys going to be a player. [Rodney] Adams, hes got a chance to be a player. [Jaleel] Johnson, he does, too.
Vikings’ suddenly unstable offensive line feels all too familiar, no early speculation on Riley Reiff’s status
As the Vikings got back to work on Monday, following their first loss since Oct. 1, they were beset by familiar questions about a topic theyd rather not have to revisit: the health and consistency of their offensive line.
Offensive line injuries troubling for Vikings, red-zone issues resurface
CHARLOTTE, N.C. Though the Vikings had weathered a few injuries on the offensive line during a 10-2 start, they hadnt experienced anything that put them in the same straits they were in for much of 2016, when myriad offensive line injuries contributed to their 3-8 finish after a 5-0 start.
Vikings brought back to earth in 31-24 loss to Panthers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Vikings NFC North championship celebration will have to wait for now.
They fell 31-24 to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium, after a frantic comeback to tie the game was ultimately rendered moot by Cam Newtons 62-yard run to set up Jonathan Stewarts decisive touchdown.

Vikings put veteran LG Alex Boone on cut list
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings left no spot unturned on their makeover of an offensive line that struggled badly last year.
Left guard Alex Boone was unexpectedly among the 34 players cut Saturday by the Vikings to comply with the 53-man roster limit, ensuring they'll have an entirely different look for the starting front five.
The Vikings each year had named a Rookie of the Year at the Minnesota Football Awards banquet.
That is, until the last one. No Vikings rookie did much in 2016, and so no award was handed out.
Count on that changing, though, in 2017. It looks as if the Vikings will have a bevy of top rookies despite not having a first-round pick.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have signed five more draft picks, leaving second-round running back Dalvin Cook as their lone rookie without a contract.
The Vikings also signed former Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong, who will play safety after taking part in rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
I was at my son's rugby game on Friday, shivering in a chilly, damp wind, when the first phone call came. It was my buddy Phil, calling to let me know that the Vikings had drafted Florida State running back Dalvin Cook with their first pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Running plays by the Minnesota Vikings last season were largely unproductive endeavors, with an average of 75.3 yards rushing per game that was the lowest in the NFL in four years.
The Vikings have attacked their obvious offseason priority with the kind of aggression they'd appreciate after the handoffs take place on the field this fall. Head coach Mike Zimmer was all for it, despite his mind for and expertise in defense.
