Michigan had many options to replace longtime coach John Beilein.
The Wolverines could have gone with a big-name hire, an up-and-coming young coach or a veteran assistant.

WASHINGTON (AP) — After watching Villanova make 3-pointer after 3-pointer and build a hard-to-fathom lead — 20, then 30, eventually all the way up to 44 — Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing did not want to offer any sort of assessment about what this game indicates about his team's status in relation to the No. 1 Wildcats.
"I'm not even thinking about that," Ewing said. "All I'm thinking about is that they're a good team and tonight was their night. That's it."
Georgetown’s Ewing tops St. John’s Mullin 1 more time at MSG
NEW YORK (AP) — Patrick Ewing mostly kept his hands in his suit pockets as he paced the Madison Square Garden sideline. The 7-footer had already served his tenure banging-and-bumping at the Garden for 15 years and over 35,000 minutes logged as a New York Knick, so he could be excused for playing it cool as coach.
"My body still aches from the years I played here," Ewing said, laughing.

"'Hoya Paranoia' was great," Ewing said during an interview as he prepares to make his sideline debut at his alma mater, with Georgetown hosting Jacksonville University on Sunday. "Everybody was against us. And I'd love to bring all of that back."
He punctuated that thought with his baritone chuckle.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly three months after he was introduced as Georgetown's new basketball coach, Patrick Ewing has a staff of assistants and recruiters: Louis Orr, Robert Kirby and Akbar Waheed.
