Supreme Court returns to gun rights for 1st time in 9 years
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court said Tuesday it will take up its first gun rights case in nine years, a challenge to New York City's prohibition on carrying a licensed, locked and unloaded handgun outside the city limits.
The court's decision to hear the appeal filed by three New York residents and New York's National Rifle Association affiliate could signal a revived interest in gun rights by a more conservative court. The case won't be argued until October.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan and lawyer Paul Clement often find themselves on opposite sides of issues he argues and she helps decide at the high court. But at a recent event in Washington, Kagan and Clement agreed new administrations should be sparing in changing their predecessors' positions in pending Supreme Court cases.

SWANSEA, Wales (AP) — Swansea maintained its momentum under Carlos Carvalhal as Ki Sung-yueng's late strike secured a 1-0 home victory over Burnley on Saturday in the Premier League.
A game of few chances sprang into life when Ki drilled home low from the edge of the penalty area in the 82nd minute for his first goal since May 2016.
Swansea has now taken 14 points from 21 since Carvalhal succeeded Paul Clement, climbing from the bottom of the league to 15th place.
Republicans ask Supreme Court to block redistricting order
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Republican legislative leaders asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday to block enforcement of an order throwing out the state's congressional map because the lines were too partisan and directing a redraw almost immediately.
The lawmakers' attorneys filed a motion with Chief Justice John Roberts seeking delay of the lower court judges' directive that the General Assembly draw a replacement map by Jan. 24.
Carvalhal makes instant impact as Swansea beats Watford 2-1
WATFORD, England (AP) — Carlos Carvalhal made the perfect start as Swansea manager as his new team scored twice from the 86th minute to win 2-1 at Watford and climb off the bottom of the Premier League on Saturday.
Jordan Ayew scored the equalizer before Luciano Narsingh grabbed the winner in the 90th minute, allowing Swansea to leap above West Bromwich Albion and into 19th place.

SWANSEA, Wales (AP) — Player-coach Leon Britton will take charge of Swansea for its Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Saturday following the departure of manager Paul Clement.
The 35-year-old Britton, who has been a midfielder for Swansea for the last 15 years, joined the coaching staff last month.
Britton said he doesn't want to take the job on a full-time basis.

LONDON (AP) — Swansea fired its fourth manager in around two years on Wednesday, dismissing Paul Clement just before the manager completed a year in charge of the Premier League club.
Clement's departure comes with the South Wales team bottom of the standings, approaching the midway point of the season.
"To change the manager, especially at only the halfway point of the season, is the last thing we wanted to do as a club," club chairman Huw Jenkins said in a statement.

The 44-year-old Makelele's only other role as a head coach was at French club Bastia, where he lasted six months before getting fired. He has also been an assistant at Paris Saint-Germain.
