PARIS (AP) — Australian actress and campaigner against sexual harassment Cate Blanchett will head this year's Cannes film festival jury, organizers said Thursday.
In a statement, top Cannes officials Pierre Lescure and Thierry Fremaux expressed their delight in welcoming "such a rare and unique artist whose talent and convictions enrich both screen and stage."

MADRID (AP) — Actor-turned-director Raul Arevalo's first film, "The Fury of a Patient Man," won best picture and he was honored for best directorial debut and best original screenplay at the 31st Spanish Film Academy's Goya Awards.
Arevalo, 37, shared the screenplay award Saturday night with David Pulido for co-writing the dark thriller.

PARIS (AP) — Cannes Film Festival organizers have announced that flamboyant Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar will be jury president at this year's festival as it celebrates its 70th anniversary.
Pierre Lescure and Thierry Fremaux said Tuesday that "Cannes is delighted to welcome a unique and hugely popular artist. His works have already carved out an eternal niche in the history of film."
Spain picks Pedro Almodovar’s “Julieta” as Oscar contender
MADRID (AP) — Spain's film academy has selected Pedro Almodovar's film "Julieta" as its entry for best foreign language film at next year's Oscars.
It is the sixth time the director, who has won two Academy Awards, has represented Spain in the category.
The pick, announced Wednesday, also competed for the Palme D'Or at this year's Cannes film festival.
