Indiana governor names no current teachers to pay commission
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A seven-member commission picked by Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb to recommend ways to boost teacher pay won't include any current teachers or school leaders.
Holcomb's office announced his appointments Tuesday for the panel, which will be led by former Mayflower Group chairman and president Michael Smith. The remaining members are three other business executives, an Ivy Tech Community College vice president, a philanthropic foundation leader and a nonprofit group executive.

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A northwestern Indiana philanthropic foundation has won a more than $226,000 federal grant to address food deserts in Gary and East Chicago, in part by expanding access to locally-grown produce.
The Merrillville-based Legacy Foundation will use the funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to add food markets and mobile markets by next summer in the two Lake County cities.

Horses Spirits Healing Inc., an equine based program for veterans with service-related injuries or disabilities, has received a grant for $5,000 from the Fortin Family Foundation.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A philanthropic foundation is giving more than $800,000 to the Foundation for Maine's Community Colleges to help serve more students.
The Kresge Foundation is providing the money. The community college system says the money will enable the seven colleges in the system to join the Achieving the Dream network.
Howard E. Butt Jr., oldest son of Texas H-E-B family, dies at 89
Howard E. Butt Jr., the brother of H-E-B Chairman and CEO Charles Butt and the oldest son of the grocery chain’s namesake founder Howard E. Butt Sr., died Sunday at his home in San Antonio due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was 89.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of my brother, Howard,” Charles Butt said in a statement. “His decades of inspired leadership, philanthropy and humanitarian efforts will forever be missed by our family and those he impacted across the U.S.”
