Rantanen's power-play slap shot with 1.3 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Avalanche a 4-3 victory Sunday over the slumping Anaheim Ducks.
Colorado overcame a 3-1 deficit to hand the Ducks their 12th loss in 15 games. Rantanen added two assists to his eighth goal of the season, increasing his NHL-leading total to 32 points.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Next season's defending champion Washington Capitals will look a lot like the group that won the Stanley Cup last month.
They re-signed defensemen John Carlson and Michal Kempny and forward Devante Smith-Pelly and have so far only lost fourth-line center Jay Beagle and backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer from their title-winning roster.

DALLAS (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche signed goaltender Philipp Grubauer to a three-year contract and put defenseman Brooks Orpik on buyout waivers the day after acquiring them from the Washington Capitals.
One person with knowledge of the move said the Avalanche signed Grubauer to a $10 million contract. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.

Trotz described the issue as a tweak, and Philipp Grubauer started in net for Washington. The Capitals recalled goalie Pheonix Copley from the Hershey Bears before the game.
Grubauer has been playing more than Holtby of late after the latter had a poor stretch in February and the start of March.
