ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Seven organizations across New York state are splitting more than $3 million in state funding to curb gun violence and help people impacted by shootings.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced earlier this week that the funding will go to not-for-profit groups in Mount Vernon, Rochester, the Bronx, Yonkers, Troy, Poughkeepsie and Buffalo. The Democrat says the money will fund SNUG, New York's street outreach program.

The measure passed by the Dutchess County Legislature requires stores to switch to paper or reusable bags by 2020. It must be signed by County Executive Marc Molinaro before it's official. He has said he supports it.

City Fire Chief Mark Johnson says the victims are believed to be homeless people who had been staying in the house, which had no utilities connected. The bodies were found around 4 a.m. Monday after firefighters extinguished a blaze that caused sections of the house to collapse.

The two Hudson Valley schools announced an agreement Monday that enables full-time students from one college to take up to two courses per year at the other school tuition free.

The family of Vincent Viafore had filed a wrongful death lawsuit to prevent Angelika Graswald from collecting $491,000 from his life insurance policies.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office says it was notified around noon Tuesday that a body was spotted in the water near the Mid-Hudson Bridge in Poughkeepsie. Police were dispatched to the area in boats and a man's body was recovered.
The body was turned over to the county medical examiner's office for identification.
Police searching for missing swimmer in Hudson River
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Police are searching for a man who disappeared in the Hudson River in upstate New York.
Poughkeepsie police say they received a call of two swimmers in distress near Waryas Park around noon Tuesday.
The city fire department says firefighter Kenneth Deichler was able to pull one swimmer from the water, but the second swimmer could not be found.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a 49-year-old man who went missing in the Hudson River off Poughkeepsie.
Rescue crews from local police and fire departments and the Coast Guard were deployed Tuesday afternoon after a report of two swimmers in distress.
One of the swimmers was pulled ashore. The person's condition was not immediately known.
Woman rescued from Poughkeepsie building collapse
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — A woman who was trapped under debris after a vacant seven-story building partially collapsed onto another building in Poughkeepsie has been rescued.
Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison told the Poughkeepsie Journal the woman was conscious and alert. He said the woman had been trapped on the ground floor by a heavy piece of debris.
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — A barge fitted with glassblowing equipment is making a stop in Poughkeepsie.
The 80-foot-long barge operated by the Corning Museum of Glass is docking along the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie Friday through Sunday. The craft is equipped with electric glassblowing equipment and offers free demonstrations to guests who pre-register.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A New York state lawmaker who emigrated from Greece and worked to revitalize struggling parts of the Hudson Valley has died.
Democratic Assemblyman Frank Skartados (skar-TAY'-dohs) died early Sunday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The 62-year-old was first elected to the Legislature in 2008 and represented areas of the Hudson Valley including Newburgh and parts of Poughkeepsie.
