POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a man's body has been found along the Hudson River in upstate New York where a man disappeared last week while swimming with friends.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office says it was notified around noon Tuesday that a body was spotted in the water near the Mid-Hudson Bridge in Poughkeepsie. Police were dispatched to the area in boats and a man's body was recovered.

The body was turned over to the county medical examiner's office for identification.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Police are searching for a man who disappeared in the Hudson River in upstate New York.

Poughkeepsie police say they received a call of two swimmers in distress near Waryas Park around noon Tuesday.

The city fire department says firefighter Kenneth Deichler was able to pull one swimmer from the water, but the second swimmer could not be found.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a 49-year-old man who went missing in the Hudson River off Poughkeepsie.

Rescue crews from local police and fire departments and the Coast Guard were deployed Tuesday afternoon after a report of two swimmers in distress.

One of the swimmers was pulled ashore. The person's condition was not immediately known.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — A woman who was trapped under debris after a vacant seven-story building partially collapsed onto another building in Poughkeepsie has been rescued.

Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison told the Poughkeepsie Journal the woman was conscious and alert. He said the woman had been trapped on the ground floor by a heavy piece of debris.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — A barge fitted with glassblowing equipment is making a stop in Poughkeepsie.

The 80-foot-long barge operated by the Corning Museum of Glass is docking along the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie Friday through Sunday. The craft is equipped with electric glassblowing equipment and offers free demonstrations to guests who pre-register.

Democratic Assemblyman Frank Skartados (skar-TAY'-dohs) died early Sunday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The 62-year-old was first elected to the Legislature in 2008 and represented areas of the Hudson Valley including Newburgh and parts of Poughkeepsie.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Marist College in New York is hosting a speakers' series focused on the turbulent year 1968.

The Marist Institute for Public Opinion kicks off the series Thursday evening with a talk by Washington Post columnist E.J Dionne, Jr. The talks will tie in with a course taught on Hudson Valley campus this semester called "1968: The Year that Rocked American Politics."

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Marist College has fired men's basketball coach Mike Maker and his assistants.

Marist director of athletics Tim Murray announced the changes on Monday and said a national search for a new head coach would begin immediately.

In four seasons under Maker, Marist managed just 28 wins. The Red Foxes finished 6-25 this season, which ended last Thursday with a first-round loss to Fairfield in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — The Poughkeepsie City School District says all schools are closed due to a threatened shooting at its high school.

The superintendent says in a message posted on the district's website that schools are closed Wednesday "out of an abundance of caution."

The district says it is aware of, and taking seriously, a recent post on social media about a threatened shooting at Poughkeepsie High School. It says immediate action has been taken.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Dimencio Vaughn scored 28 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds as Rider staged an improbable comeback, roaring back from 21 points down in the final 10 minutes to post an 89-79 win over Marist Saturday to maintain a share of first place in the Metro Atlantic standings.
