Stallworth scores 29, Williams beats buzzer in Citadel win
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Quayson Williams drove the length of the court for the winning layup as time expired and The Citadel defeated rival VMI 84-82 on Saturday.
VMI's Garrett Gilkeson grabbed an offensive rebound and missed the follow-up in heavy traffic with four seconds remaining. The Citadel's Zane Najdawi grabbed that rebound and threw a short outlet to Williams who raced to the other end for his only points of the game.
Najdawi, Stallworth send The Citadel past Johnson & Wales
CHARELESTON, S.C. (AP) — Zane Najdawi scored 23 points and missed just two shots and grabbed 10 rebounds and The Citadel beat Division III-member Johnson & Wales 127-93 on Wednesday night.
Najdawi was 10-for-12 shooting in a little more than a half of action and Lew Stallworth finished with 19 points and tied a career-high 10 assists. Kaiden Rice scored 16 points, Matt Frierson, 15, Connor Kern, 14 and Quayson Williams, 10 for The Citadel (7-2), winners of all five of its home contests.
Frierson hits 10 3s, sparks The Citadel to 137-60 romp
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Matt Frierson scored 30 points on 10 3-pointers, Lew Stallworth scored 13 points with 13 assists and The Citadel raced away from Johnson University 137-60 Wednesday night.
Six Bulldogs scored in double figures in the lopsided contest. Zane Najdawi scored 18 points, making 10 of 10 at the foul line, Haden Brown added 15, Connor Kern 14 points with three 3-pointers, and Kaiden Rice added 11.
Parham, Vereen lead hot-shooting VMI to 1st SoCon win 88-81
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Bubba Parham scored 24 points, Austin Vereen added 18 as VMI led the entire way to defeat The Citadel 88-81 on Saturday, halting a seven-game losing streak and claiming its first Southern Conference victory this season.
Vereen opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers as the Keydets shot 50 percent, never trailed and led by as many as 19 before halftime.
Wofford rolls in 2nd half for 109-92 win over The Citadel
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Nathan Hoover, Trevor Stumpe and Storm Murphy all had career nights, combining for 57 points as Wofford got its seventh win in the last eight games, beating The Citadel 109-92 in Southern Conference action on Saturday.
Cameron Jackson added 13 points with a career-best 13 rebounds. Hoover finished with 21 points, Stumpe added 19, making 10 of 12 from the line, and Murphy chipped in 17 for Wofford (10-5, 2-1).
Sibley scores 26, fuels Furman’s 107-67 rout of The Citadel
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Devin Sibley put up 26 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Furman won its Southern Conference home opener in a rout, pasting The Citadel 107-67 on Thursday night.
The Paladins shot 54.9 percent from the field (39 of 71), including 17 of 40 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Sibley scored 16 of his points in the first half as Furman (11-4, 2-0) raced to a 23-point advantage, 56-33, at intermission.
The Citadel hits 12 3s in 110-66 rout of Point
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Alex Reed scored a career-high 18 points with four 3-pointers, Derek Webster Jr. had a career-high 11 points with 10 rebounds, and The Citadel went on a 28-4 first-half run in its 110-66 rout of NAIA Point University on Saturday.
Tariq Simmons scored 16 points, Quayson Williams had 13, and Kaelon Harris added 10 with a career-high six assists for the Bulldogs (5-6). The Citadel never trailed, forced 31 turnovers and made a season-high 12 3-pointers.
Najdawi scores 28; The Citadel beats Trinity Baptist 116-66
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Zane Najdawi made 12 of 15 from the field and scored 28 points and Tariq Simmons had 16 points, a career-high seven rebounds, four assists and four steals to help The Citadel beat Trinity Baptist 116-66 on Tuesday night.
Kaelon Harris and Hayden Brown scored 11 points apiece for The Citadel (3-2). Frankie Johnson added nine points and five steals, while Preston Parks finished with eight points, a career-high tying nine assists and four steals.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — After averaging 101 points in its first two basketball games of the season, The Citadel went cold Wednesday night at North Carolina A&T.
The Bulldogs missed 28 of 33 shots from 3-point range in a 92-73 loss to the Aggies, a team that won just three games last season.
The Citadel shot 15 percent from 3-point range after making 44.3 percent of its 3-pointers in its first two games, a 109-73 win over Oglethorpe and a 132-93 loss at Virginia Tech.
Citadel basketball coach Duggar Baucom adds freshmen to promising mix
Late last season, coach Duggar Baucom's Citadel basketball team found a formula that seemed to work. The Bulldogs snapped a 11-game skid to win three of their final four games, including a victory over Western Carolina in the Southern Conference tournament.
Now in his third season at The Citadel, Baucom is hoping to put that formula to work for an entire season.
The Citadel lost its fifth straight basketball game Saturday, falling by 82-66 to Mercer at Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga.
Freshman forward Ezekiel Balogun scored 16 points with eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, and sophomore guard Quayson Williams broke out of a shooting slump with four 3-pointers and 12 points.
But it wasn't nearly enough for the Bulldogs, who lost for the 12th straight time to Mercer to fall to 9-14 overall and 2-8 in the Southern Conference.

MACON, Ga. (AP) — Demetre Rivers had 23 points to lead Mercer to its 12th straight victory over The Citadel as the Bears pulled away in the second half for an 82-66 win on Saturday.
Stephon Jelks had a season-best 14 rebounds while dishing out a career-high eight assists for Mercer (10-12, 4-5 Southern Conference).
Rivers hit 7 of 10 from the floor. Ria'n Holland added 17 points and Jordan Strawberry hit 3 of 4 from distance to total 15 points for Mercer.
Cromer, Payne lead ETSU to 115-71 win over The Citadel
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — T.J. Cromer had 19 points and four steals, Devontavious Payne hit 4 of 6 from 3-point range and scored 19 more and ETSU cruised to a 115-71 win over The Citadel on Thursday night.
A.J. Merriweather scored 14, Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Tevin Glass had 12 points apiece and Jermaine Long added 11. David Burrell had 10 points and eight rebounds while Glass added seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The new year can't get here fast enough for The Citadel basketball team, which closed 2016 with a fourth straight loss on Saturday at Furman.
Paladins forward Kris Acox posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds as Furman cruised to an 83-68 victory at Timmons Arena in Greenville.
The Bulldogs fell to 7-8 overall and 0-2 in the Southern Conference despite 24 points from freshman Preston Parks, who is from Wade Hampton High School in Greenville.
Whitfield leads Campbell past The Citadel 97-91
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Shane Whitfield scored a career-high 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and Campbell slipped past The Citadel for a 97-91 win Sunday in the Holy City Hoops Classic.
Chris Clemons added 27 points and Cory Gensler had 12 for Campbell (5-4), which shot 60 percent. Whitfield's rebounding total also was a career best and the game marked his first double-double.
Najdawi scores 30 to lead The Citadel past Colgate 108-101
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Zane Najdawi scored a career-high 30 points, Brian White hit six 3-pointers for 20 points and The Citadel defeated Colgate 108-101 on Friday in the Holy City Hoops Classic.
Quayson Williams had four 3s and 18 points, plus six assists, for the Bulldogs (5-3), who made 16 of 35 behind the arc and shot 50 percent (31 of 62).
Najdawi’s 27 leads The Citadel past Presbyterian
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Zane Najdawi scored 27 points and added nine rebounds and The Citadel methodically pulled away from Presbyterian down the stretch in a 97-83 win on Monday night.
Najdawi finished 7 of 11 from the field and hit all 12 of his free throws. Preston Parks hit four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points for the Bulldogs (4-3), and Quayson Williams added 14. Overall The Citadel shot 55.6 percent from the field and hit 25 of 36 at the line.
Playing in front of 14,228 fans against the No. 20 Iowa State Cyclones, The Citadel looked like "deer in the headlights," Bulldogs basketball coach Duggar Baucom said.
The Citadel got run over, losing by 130-63 on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
The 3-2 Bulldogs, who won 116-112 at Stetson on Friday, wind up this road trip at Arizona State on Wednesday.

Frankie Johnson was 7 of 9 from the floor for 17 points, Warren Sledge added 15 and Brian White chipped in 13 for The Citadel (2-1). Zane Jajdawi had nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
