RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Corinthians right back Fagner has been cleared by Brazil's football confederation to play in the World Cup in Russia.
Fagner and Manchester City's Danilo are the most likely substitutes for team leader Dani Alves, who will miss the tournament because of a knee injury.
The Brazilian confederation said in a statement on Sunday that their doctor Rodrigo Lasmar believes Fagner will be fit for the tournament that kicks off on June 14.
MUNICH (AP) — Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben is staying with the club for another season.
Bayern says that both Robben and Brazilian defender Rafinha have agreed to extend their contracts through June 2019, and will soon sign their new deals.
The 34-year-old Robben, who joined Bayern from Real Madrid in 2009, had been considering other offers but he follows Franck Ribery, 35, in committing to another season with the Bavarian powerhouse.
MILAN (AP) — Inter Milan completed the signing of Barcelona midfielder Rafinha on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent move.
Inter can sign the Brazil international permanently for 35 million euros ($43 million) plus 3 million euros ($3.7 million) in bonuses, and said on Monday that option "must be taken up before the end of the season."
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona midfielder Rafinha will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his injured right knee.
The 24-year-old Rafinha hurt his knee during last Sunday's 4-1 win over Granada and will be out for four months, the Spanish club said Friday.
The Brazil international has scored seven goals for Barcelona this season.
MADRID (AP) — Barcelona didn't show any signs of missing Lionel Messi on Saturday, cruising past Sporting Gijon 5-0 in its first Spanish league game without the injured playmaker.
Neymar and Luis Suarez took over in Messi's absence, and by the end of the day Barcelona was only one point behind Real Madrid, which drew at Las Palmas 2-2 after conceding a late equalizer.
Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scored for Madrid, which twice relinquished its lead.
