Allen, Locke lead the way as Gators beat Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Kevarrius Hayes saw no reason to worry even as Florida was letting another second-half lead fade away.
"Trailing by five, we had a lot of fight in us," he said. "We understand the game is nowhere near over until the final buzzer. The game of basketball can change quickly."
KeVaughn Allen scored 13 points, Noah Locke added 10 points and the Gators rallied from a brief second-half deficit to beat Georgia 62-52 on Saturday.
Hammonds’ big finish leads Georgia past Vanderbilt, 82-63
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — After missing each of his four shots in a scoreless first half, Rayshaun Hammonds found a positive attitude.
He also found his shot.
Hammonds scored 19 points, all in the second half, and Georgia bounced back from an ugly loss in its Southeastern Conference opener to beat Vanderbilt 82-63 on Wednesday night.
Derek Ogbeide had 15 points and nine rebounds for Georgia (9-5, 1-1 SEC). The Bulldogs led only 56-55 before finally pulling away with an 18-2 run.
Claxton too much for Jackets as Georgia beats Georgia Tech
ATLANTA (AP) — Nicolas Claxton loved how Georgia started out denying entry points and disrupting Georgia Tech's passing lanes.
The Bulldogs dominated the game with their length.
"It was a huge win," the 6-foot-11 Claxton said. "We came out strong. In the second half they had a little surge but we just kept fighting."
Claxton had 13 points and 13 rebounds, Teshaun Hightower added 12 points, and Georgia beat Georgia Tech 70-59 on Saturday.
Georgia holds off Oakland comeback, wins 81-69
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Twice up by 17 points, Georgia was staring at a two-point lead against Oakland with five minutes to go and a nightmarish memory.
But the Bulldogs showed signs of progress, pulling away late for an 81-69 victory on Tuesday night. It was a reversal of Saturday's 76-74 loss to No. 20 Arizona State when the Bulldogs blew an 18-point lead.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley thought his team showed the kind of toughness it needs to get back to the NCAA Tournament this season.

Remy Martin scored 21 points, Romello White added 16 and No. 20 Arizona State rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat Georgia 76-74 on Saturday night.
Crump scores career-high 25, Georgia beats Texas Southern
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Tyree Crump was thrilled when first-year coach Tom Crean announced that Georgia would be shooting plenty of 3-pointers this season.
"I was in the gym a lot this summer, just working on shooting, working on my game," Crump said. "I felt like that carried over to the season and also coach Crean getting my form right."
Crump scored a career-high 25 points, Nicolas Claxton added 15 points and nine rebounds, and Georgia had little trouble beating Texas Southern 92-75 on Monday night.
Georgia dominates Kennesaw State 84-51
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — New Georgia basketball coach Tom Crean is beginning to see a basketball player when he looks at 6-foot-11 sophomore Nicolas Claxton.
The second-generation Bulldog scored 16 points and claimed a career-high 15 rebounds in Georgia's 84-51 win over in-state foe Kennesaw State Tuesday night.
Rayshaun Hammonds added 14 points for Georgia (4-3). Jordan Harris came off the bench to score 10.
Claxton sparks 11-0 run that lifts Georgia past Bearkats
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — With Georgia trailing by five points, its 3-point shot not falling and less than eight minutes remaining, Nicolas Claxton and the Bulldogs found a different gear.
Claxton scored 13 points, including two straight layups in an 11-0 run which brought Georgia back from a second-half deficit, and the Bulldogs beat Sam Houston State 75-64 on Friday night.

Maten, Hammonds lead Georgia past LSU
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Yante Maten puts a lot of stock in moving into second place on Georgia's career scoring list.
"It means a lot," he said, "just being able to represent my school the way I've tried to for the past four years and just having the opportunity to make plays night in and night out."
Maten had 27 points and 11 rebounds, freshman Rayshaun Hammonds scored a career-high 21 and Georgia beat LSU 93-82 on Saturday.
Missouri pulls away in 2nd half to beat Georgia 68-56
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri's Jontay Porter didn't hesitate. Jordan Geist flung a pass to the freshman forward, who took one step, jumped over 6-foot-8 Georgia forward Yante Maten and crashed the ball into the net.
The crowd at Mizzou Arena erupted, foreshadowing the explosiveness Missouri would have in the second half on Wednesday night. On the drive after Porter's dunk, Geist stole the ball from William Jackson III and made the layup to cut Georgia's lead to three at the halftime buzzer.
Maten, Georgia overpower Alabama in easy 65-46 win
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia coach Mark Fox knew his team would play in front of a sellout crowd and wanted his players to look spiffy.
It was Georgia against Alabama, two days before the two schools meet for the football national championship in Atlanta, so Fox told the equipment manager to break out the silver uniforms.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Juwan Parker's teammates do not call him Dr. J yet, but the graduate student set new a career high Wednesday night in Georgia's 71-60 Southeastern Conference win over Ole Miss.
Parker scored a career-high 18 points and equaled his career-best 11 rebounds, coming off the bench. Parker got extra minutes because freshman starter Rayshaun Hammonds fouled out in just eight minutes.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Yante Maten began his career at Georgia when the Bulldogs were completing a streak of four straight losses to state rival Georgia Tech.
With Maten leading the way, Georgia has launched its own winning streak in the rivalry.
Maten scored 24 points, including two baskets in Georgia's 13-3 run to open a dominant second half, and the Bulldogs beat Georgia Tech 80-59 on Tuesday night.
Georgia holds off Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for 68-65 win
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Yante Maten scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Georgia to a 68-65 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon.
Georgia (3-0) scored the first 11 points of the game and led by as much as 19 points, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rallied in the second half. The Islanders never led, but tied the game three times, the last at 53-all with 5:25 to go after a pair of free throws by Kareem South.
Maten takes charge, Georgia beats South Carolina-Upstate
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Yante Maten knows when the time is right to yell at his supporting cast, and this was not that time.
"One of the things a leader has to do is encourage, so I try my hardest to encourage my teammates," he said. "We started strong and we kind of dipped. I told everyone on the bench that we have to watch our energy level on the bench."
Maten’s 21 points help Georgia coast past Bryant, 79-54
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Yante Maten scored 21 points and had strong support from a freshman class led by Rayshaun Hammonds as Georgia rolled to an easy 79-54 win over Bryant on Friday night in the season opener for each team.
Maten had game-high totals of 12 rebounds and four blocks. Hammonds added 17 points on his 19th birthday. He became the first freshman to start Georgia's opener since Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, now with the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, in 2011.
