UConn to retire numbers of Hall of Famers Allen, Lobo
STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut will retire the numbers of former basketball stars Ray Allen and Rebecca Lobo.
The numbers 34 and 50 will become the first retired by the school during a ceremony in March. The university says it's an honor reserved for Hall of Famers.
In 2017, Lobo was the first UConn player inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Allen was enshrined in September.
McGrady, Lobo, Self and McGraw headline Hall of Fame class
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Tracy McGrady says his wife, Clerenda, has been trying to get him to say that he deserves to be in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time league scoring champion couldn't bring himself to do that, until Friday night.
He went to the podium during his induction pumping his fists in the air as the crowd chanted "T-Mac," then celebrated his 15 years in the league.
Lobo enters Hall of Fame 15 minutes from where she grew up
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Rebecca Lobo says she wasn't aware of her basketball impact until she saw children wearing replicas of her jersey.
The former UConn and WNBA star was in Springfield on Thursday signing some of those in advance of her enshrinement into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
STORRS — When Chris Dailey first caught a glimpse of the 7-foot-2 gentle giant Margo Dydek 25 years ago, her initial reaction was how UConn’s future national players of the year Rebecca Lobo and Kara Wolters would fare against the shot-blocking dynamo. Then she wondered if there was a way of getting Dydek to come to Storrs to suit up for the Huskies.
DALLAS (AP) — Rebecca Lobo grew up 15 minutes from the Basketball Hall of Fame and held her wedding reception there.
Now she'll be enshrined there.
"I was the kid going to the old Hall of Fame with the conveyor belt where you would shoot at the baskets at the end," said Lobo, part of the 11-person class announced Saturday. "To me the coolest part was the lockers where you saw how big people's feet were.
Badgers men’s basketball: Bo Ryan again falls short of Naismith Hall of Fame
Bo Ryan was again denied entry into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The 2017 class was announced Saturday morning and it didn’t include the former University of Wisconsin men’s basketball coach. Ryan was a finalist for the third consecutive year.
The 11-member class was headlined by former NBA star Tracy McGrady, Kansas coach Bill Self and former Connecticut standout Rebecca Lobo.
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Two-time NBA scoring champion Tracy McGrady, Kansas coach Bill Self, former Chicago Bulls executive Jerry Krause and former UConn star Rebecca Lobo are part of this year's Basketball Hall of Fame class.
The Hall of Fame announced the 11-person class Saturday.
DALLAS — At a place like Storrs, where titles in April fall as frequently as snow in February, it’s still possible to exceed through-the-roof expectations.
“We have spring, summer, fall and basketball,” associate head coach Chris Dailey joked Thursday from American Airlines Center, the site of this year’s Final Four. “Those are the four seasons.”
NEW YORK (AP) — Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies are on an unbelievable run.
No, not the 109 straight wins. Or the four consecutive national championships.
Try this: They haven't lost back-to-back games in almost a quarter century. That's 883 straight games without consecutive losses.
