Musings of a four-time Guinness World Record holder
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — On page 207 of the 2005 Guinness World Records book, between listings for the "Most champagne bottles sabered in one minute" (20 bottles) and "Oldest restaurant" (Spain's Restaurante Botin), is found one of 59-year-old Al Gliniecki's four world records:
"Most cherry stems knotted in three minutes — Al Gliniecki (U.S.A.) tied 39 cherry stems into knots with his tongue in three minutes at the Guinness World of Records Experience, Orlando, Florida, U.S.A., on January 26, 1999."
Easy does it: Kelly and Ryan kick off a new ‘Live’ season
NEW YORK (AP) — On his first appearance on the soon-to-be-rechristened "Live with Kelly and Ryan," Ryan Seacrest had something rare for someone who seems born to be on TV: butterflies.
Stepping on camera after Kelly Ripa broke the news of her new co-host last May 1, Seacrest was seized by an odd, intrusive notion: a desire "to just get invited back tomorrow."
Philbin says he hasn’t been in touch with Ripa lately
NEW YORK (AP) — Regis Philbin says he hasn't kept in touch with his former TV co-host Kelly Ripa since he decided to leave the show they headlined together, even though he last appeared on the show in 2015.
TV host Regis Philbin says he hasn't kept in touch with his former co-host Kelly Ripa since he decided to leave the show they headlined together.
In an interview with "Larry King Now" that was posted online Wednesday, Philbin says Ripa took it personally and was offended when he decided to leave their show "Live! with Regis and Kelly" in 2011. He says she thought he was leaving because of her.
Michael Strahan says he and former co-host Kelly Ripa don’t communicate and he doesn’t know what their relationship is now. The newest co-anchor of “Good Morning America” got his new job amidst much controversy. After replacing Regis Philbin on “Live” four years ago, ABC/Disney, which produces both “Live” and “GMA,” made the decision to move Strahan to “GMA” without notifying Ripa. Ripa was reportedly livid. Strahan said he told Ripa himself about the transfer. Strahan said he and Ripa were friends, once, but doesn’t know what happened. Toward the end of the four years, they really weren’t communicating anyway, and his leaving shouldn’t have been a shock. Strahan said his problem was the portrayal of his abandoning the show and its people. He says he has no regrets and wishes Ripa well. As of press time no response from her yet. Strahan, his three daughters and son will soon be on the cover of People magazine after Brad and Angelina’s cover, which is out this week.
Regis & Rickles bringing laughs to bergenPAC, you hockey puck!
Thirty years ago, I was backstage at WABC-TV’s “The Morning Show,” interviewing its hosts, Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Johnson, and telling them how they really, really should be syndicated.
Philbin agreed. “We have something special here,” he said. “And I think the rest of the country would enjoy it. But I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
