Police said 74-year-old James Glawson is charged with first-degree and second-degree sexual assault.
The Exeter man was held without bail at his arraignment Friday. He was referred to the public defender's office. No plea was entered.
4 Rhode Island brothers arrested on drug charges

Police: 1 dead after crash into trees in Lincoln
LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police say one person has died after their car went off Interstate 295 in Lincoln and crashed into the trees.
The car was heading south near the Cumberland line at about 1:15 a.m. Friday when it went off the left side of the highway into the center median.
Cumberland firefighters had to use chain saws to clear a path to the wreck.
Ex-employee charged with stealing $20,000 in gift cards

Rhode Island State Police say Jennifer Cotrone, who was a sales coordinator at Ocean State Job Lot in North Kingstown, is charged with stealing promotional "Crazy Deals" gift cards and using the company computer system to refund her credit cards. The 44-year-old woman had worked at the company for 18 years.
Suspended lawyer arrested for allegedly threatening a judge

State Police Col. Ann Assumpico says 43-year-old Steven Castaldi, of Smithfield, was charged Friday with obtaining money under false pretenses.
Police say Castaldi, a Rhode Island E911 supervisor, altered work time logs for a year to collect more than $2,000 for hours he hadn't worked.
Governor names next superintendent of state police

2 killed in head-on crash in Foster, state police say

Cumberland man faces child porn charges
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police have arrested a Cumberland man they allege possessed child pornography and tried to solicit sex with a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl.
Police say 29-year-old Michael Uccello was held without bail Wednesday as a probation violator after an initial court appearance. Bail on the new charges was set at $5,000 with special bail conditions of restricted internet access and no contact with minors.
Trained dog helps investigate Rhode Island church fire
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Authorities have called in a police dog trained to detect ignitable liquids to help with an investigation into a fire at a Rhode Island church.
WPRI-TV reports that Rhode Island State Police on their official Twitter page said Friday a detective and his K-9, Nacoma, the only police dog in the state that is trained to detect ignitable liquids, were called in.
Authorities originally said the fire did not appear suspicious.
State police host cybersecurity training sessions
SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police are hosting a cybersecurity training session for local police information technology professionals and other critical infrastructure IT professionals.
Capt. John Alfred, who leads the department's Joint Cyber Task Force and Fusion Center, said the class that starts Tuesday and last three days consists of 30 participants who represent 18 municipalities, two state agencies and two critical infrastructure agencies.
Rhode Island State Police upping patrols for Thanksgiving
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police are targeting dangerous drivers for the Thanksgiving holiday.
State Police Col. Ann Assumpico said Wednesday additional troopers have been assigned to provide targeted enforcement of all motor vehicle laws, especially those prohibiting driving while impaired, distracted driving and speeding.
Troopers will also be looking for people who are not wearing seatbelts and who are using hand-held cellphones, a practice which which is now banned.
Police: 24 suspects stole $48K in government benefits
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police have charged 24 people they say were responsible for stealing nearly $50,000 in food stamp benefits.
Authorities say 22 suspects were charged with fraudulently obtaining assistance and 23 were charged with fraudulent use of food stamps. According to police, two suspects were charged with obtaining money under false pretenses and another was charged with filing false documents.

Rhode Island state police say 49-year-old Igo Nadtochij and 35-year-old Kimora Hodge of Franklin, Massachusetts were both ejected from their vehicle during Friday night's accident near exit 3.
Police say the vehicle went off the southbound side of the highway at about 8:40 p.m., re-entered the road and struck another car, then rolled over and caught fire.
Man wanted in Pennsylvania shooting caught in Rhode Island

State police say 24-year-old Clifton Kelvin Hunter was arrested on a fugitive from justice charge Friday while sitting in a vehicle outside an apartment in Pawtucket where he was thought to be staying.
Providence man charged with DUI in fatal highway crash
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Providence man suspected of driving while intoxicated has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash on Interstate 95.
Rhode Island State Police say 31-year-old Anthony Correa fled the scene early Saturday. He was spotted shortly afterward by Providence Police, who detained him.
Police: Providence man growing 100s of pot plants in home
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police have arrested a Providence man they say had hundreds of marijuana plants and a gun in his home.
State police executed a search warrant on the home of 31-year-old Anthony Patti on Friday.
Investigators say they found more than 440 marijuana plants, about eight pounds of dried marijuana, and a loaded .22 semi-automatic handgun. Police say as a convicted felon, Patti was not allowed to possess a gun.
New HOPE initiative announced to fight opioid overdoses
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police are launching a new program to help combat the opioid epidemic.
The new HOPE initiative, which stands for Heroin-Opioid Prevention Effort, involves law enforcement working with clinicians to identify people at risk of overdosing and finding them resources to help toward recovery.
Eighty state and local police officers attended the program's first day of training Monday at Roger Williams University.

Distracted driver slams into state police cruiser
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police say a distracted driver crashed into a parked police cruiser at an emergency scene.
The crash happened on Route 6 in Providence late Tuesday. Damage to the cruiser was minimal, and a trooper in the car was not hurt. The cruiser's emergency lights were flashing at the time.
9/11 ceremony held at Rhode Island State Police Headquarters
SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police hosted a ceremony to honor the lives lost 17 years ago in the Sept. 11 attacks.
Tuesday's ceremony featured bells and moments of silence marking when each plane crashed. It also included a bagpipe performance to honor the seven Rhode Island residents who died that day.
A state police detective sang the national anthem, and "Taps" was performed to honor the 30 Rhode Islanders who were killed in the subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
New York man facing drug charges in Rhode Island
WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police say they found 69 pounds of marijuana inside a car that troopers pulled over for speeding on Interstate 95.
Police say the car was driving 77 mph in a 65 mph zone in the northbound lanes of the highway in West Greenwich at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials: 54-year-old man seriously injured in crash
EXETER, R.I. (AP) — Authorities in Rhode Island say a 54-year-old man has been seriously injured in a motorcycle crash.
WJAR-TV reports the crash happened Tuesday afternoon in Exeter. Rhode Island State Police say the man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in unknown condition.
Authorities haven't released the victim's identity.
Increased patrols for Labor Day leads to dozens of arrests
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State police say they made nearly three dozen alcohol-related arrests over the holiday weekend.
The Rhode Island DUI Task force says as of Monday afternoon, 34 people had been taken into custody across the state on suspicion of driving under the influence. Rhode Island State Police said they alone issued more than 200 citations from Thursday through Sunday afternoon, including 153 speeding tickets.

Santos has been charged as a fugitive from justice because he's wanted by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office for attempted murder, armed robbery and kidnapping.
