MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Top-seeded David Goffin of Belgium reached the quarterfinals of the Open Sud de France on Wednesday by beating French veteran Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-2.
The 33-year-old Simon had won two of their three previous matches but dropped his serve six times. Goffin next plays Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania or Karen Khachanov, who played their second-round match on Thursday.
MOSCOW (AP) — Damir Dzumhur recovered from a second-set slip to beat Ricardas Berankis and win the Kremlin Cup on Sunday.
Bosnia's Dzumhur beat his Lithuanian opponent 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 to win his second career ATP title after victory last month at the St. Petersburg Open.
Dzumhur dominated from the start but slumped in the second set even though Berankis made just 31 percent of his first serves in that set.
MOSCOW (AP) — Julia Goerges ended her six-year wait for another WTA singles title by defeating Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-2 in the Kremlin Cup final on Saturday.
The German swept the first five games before Kasatkina got on the board.
Kasatkina put up more resistance at the start of the second, forcing three break points in Goerges' first service game, but couldn't convert them and was broken in the next game.
BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — On a tough day for seeded players in the Swiss Indoors first round, Stan Wawrinka rallied to beat 119th-ranked fellow Swiss Marco Chiudinelli 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-4 on Tuesday.
Top-seeded Wawrinka advanced after second-seeded Milos Raonic and sixth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov both let one-set leads slip and exited early.
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Fifth-seeded Alexander Zverev reached the second round of the St. Petersburg Open with a straight-sets win over Russian wildcard Karen Khachanov on the opening day of main-draw play.
The 19-year-old German, ranked 27th in the world, was made to work hard by a fellow youngster for a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win in 1 hour 25 minutes.
Zverev's next opponent will be another Russian, either Alexander Bublik or Daniil Medvedev.
